I've just found "Survivors" on yoooooutube, looks like its all on there, it came out when I was 4 and I've not heard of it. Was the remake with 'Mary' from William and Mary actress? I quite liked it at the beginning but it did get silly....0

Wonder if I could make people pay to come up here and chop logs/dig the garden...?? hmmm
You need to somehow register as an organic farm and get one of them thar WWOOFers up there.:D
Deffo going to look into the original series of Survivors. Didn't see it back in the day, expect wasn't the parental cup of tea. Not that we were a big telly-watching family at any time and we were TV-less when I was very young.
Confuzzled, belatedly realised my mistake and have edited my post downthread; it is One Hundred Mornings. Hope you enjoy it. I wanted to yell at them about the contents of that shed (shan't say any more, as it'd be a spoiler, but you'll see what I mean).
Re mental attitdude, armies have long been expert at turning disparate young and inexperienced men (and sometimes women) into groups which will operate for the collective benefit. It typically involves taking people well outside their comfort zone, physically and mentally.
Bit like bushcraft courses. What's been noticable to me thru various things I've done inc the bushcraft, is that how easily a small group of people can form a proto-tribe. It's almost unavoidable; things get very intense very quickly and as quickly fade if there isn't something ongoing to maintain the bond. It's like homo sap reverting to our default setting, something hardwired within us.
You can practise hardships at your leisure, even practise having no leccy or no water at home. Throw the switches and turn off the stop tap. A dry run for a weekend could reveal some interesting things about your preps as well as your mental attitudes.
I'm creeping towards the big 5-oh and have seen some interesting changes in childhood since I was a nipper. Almost everything I and my peers played on has now been banned and removed inc playgrounds and play-forts. Most of the things we all the time did wouldn't be allowed now for fear of litigation.
You were expected to be out for the whole day in summer and to amuse yourself, and whings, dings, cuts and bruises and broken bones were par for the course. Even for the girls.
I see a lot of young adults who are delicate little flowers, by comparision with us free-rangers, always on their mobiles to their parents for the least little thing. Cotton-wool-ed within an inch of their lives, some of them. Doesn't bode well for coping in troubled times, IMO.
If things get bad, some people who look like they'd be vulnerable may well have the nous and the skills to fly safely under the radar, whereas some others who look rough and tough are all cosmetic muscle and bluster and will be clueless.
I used to have a helluva time with chilblains in the early seventies and they seem to have been abolished now (thank gawd).Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Oh please please please drugs can do serious damage past the bb date. It is not necessarily the active component but also the excipients that do damage. And some of the things these compounds morph into are really really really nasty.
Some can do lasting organ damage, some cause serious other complication it is not worth it. And even in a SHTF situation it is not a good idea. Liquids are better bet. These keep better and longer USUALLY
Also the packaging is usually the source of problem, the glue goes on packets and then the contents oxidise and the result is quite nasty. Even vac packing is not fool proof but it is better.
Please take your out of date drugs to a pharmacy for proper disposal. It is NOT to safe to put in the bin or flush down the loo.
Please be careful these dates are worked out to the end because it is so expensive to make and hold licenses for these , these dates are shown to be safe and after this the risk increases quite dramatically quickly If they didn't you would be able to send back drugs to the manufacturer and they could recycle and reuse. But they can't and so you can't.
Please. Go get all your meds, check the dates and take out of date stuff to the pharmacy. Do this regularly. Also don't store meds in a kitchen or a bathroom. Neither place is cool or dry!! Both are humid and warm!Start info Dec11

Greyqueen thanks for that post...strange that you should say about turning the power and water off to practice prepping for it happening...we had no power last night due to storms then tonight we have lost the water completely...is someone trying to tell me something ? LOL
I just read that 24 million Americans are stockpiling weapons (guns, ammo and machetes) ready for 21st December, the report was according to Nasa. It seems the government are worried about them raiding shops and going berserk in the days leading up to the date. Scary stuff.
Going to look on you tube at the Survivors as I don't remember the series at all. Currently watching the 2012 film on Greek tv...they are so excited by it they have cut the usual 20 minute advertising breaks down to two minutes lol“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. You are welcome, If it saves one person being stomach pumped I am pleased I said something.
Just in case someone thinks I am alarmist: I have 2 degrees in this area and I am still working in the industry. I deal with drugs every day. I am also a skintight flint , so I do not advocate chucking stuff lightly!
I jest not, pharma out of date is NOT GOOD. Please please go check your meds now.
Also if you have in date meds but unused (whole packets) and you don't need, these can be sent abroad for immediate use , so nice recycling if you can.Start info Dec11

It seems the government are worried about them raiding shops and going berserk in the days leading up to the date. Scary stuff.I find many Americans rather over-excitable, which makes them great fun some of the time but rather wearing at other times. They're fab audiences for pals who are professional entertainers, tho.
No doubt some people will make a bit of money off the Mayan thingy, some will lose a bit of money and everyone will get to Christmas feeling just a tad foolish...........:rotfl:It's good fun for the rest of us.
Sorry to hear your water's off. Did I recall correctly that your potable water is collected by container and your other water is well water plus the underhouse rainwater tank? Is accessing the well water dependant on electricity or is there some other complication I've not grasped?
I've decided on a little pre-bedtime routine which is to make sure all the dishes are washed and that there's water in the tea-kettle as I'd be a crabby monster if I couldn't start the day without a brew. Even the Mad Bushcrafters had a tea caudron on the fire (hanging from a tripod) from morning until evening. Even in a crisis, we mustn't forget that we're Brits.
I also have a waterproof jacket and a pair of trainers in a mesh drawstring bag right beside my BOB which is a 35l rucksack. The idea is an emergency evac which could see a high-speed exit with everything I'd need for a few days.
I've changed the water in the water bottle in the BOB, which happens every Sunday, and switched the just-filled prescription for the one in that bag, which has gone into a drawer for immediate use. I checked and both lots of meds are EXP 07/14 but I feel better using them in the sequence I got them.
I also remembered to test my smoke detector. Can't say too much but there is a situation brewing nearby which has a fairly-high probablity of going very flammably-bad, very quickly. Which is why I've honed my BOB and evac plan........ because I feel that it may be needed sooner rather than later.:(
Not a pleasant situation, but there's plenty of people who have it far worse and we have to play the hand we're dealt.

i think its to do with some months having less days in them than others maybe they start to add up so we get in front xC.R.A.P.R.O.L.L.Z #7 member N.I splinter-group co-ordinater

Greyqueen...our mains is off..its pumped from the village pump house from a big well so they could have a problem there. The drinking water is in containers and filled from springs so we have stocks in containers. I meant the mains (non drinking ) water is off at the taps. We have the rain water under the house in a tank for washing etc but need to turn the pumps on to do it....which also uses quite a bit of electric and switching of pumps and stop cocks...hope that clears it up. Neither the mains or the tank are drinking water.“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. When in a state of security he does not forget the possibility of ruin.” Confucius (551 BC - 479 BC):A0
