I do love Northern Alberta in the winter. NOT!!!
But I did manage to get two shrimp rings on sale today to put away for Christmas and NYE.
You could just freeze them in your garden :eek::eek:I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Some people want to be strong and build muscle (especially important for people who want to remain thin whilst still eating liberally). Difficult to do that without a gym.
I think some gym equipment is probably necessary if you are in to honing and sculpting big time. Plus one hopefully has access to skilled advice. But imo one can stay slim and fairly toned - with the minimum of equipment and at home. I've got some resistance bands, a skipping rope and some leg weights, Add to that a couple of cans of baked beans and you're good to go.
So why am I not slim and toned? It's because they are all gathering dust! (apart from the beans which I eat). But in my gym days - which I am thinking about revisiting - it was a great motivator. Not to mention the motivation of having paid for membership .

The scenario in that film was essentially one of waiting; waiting for the lights to come back on, waiting for everything to be all right, and the gradual desperation when the stored food starts to run low/ is taken by force, when people realise that what they have isn't enough and that they're clueless about foraging, hunting or fishing. And the slow erosion of values.........and not a zombie in sight.
Anyone else remember the original 70's TV series Survivors? About life after some ghastly manmade bug has devastated the world? A few years ago I found one of the videos in the local library & brought it home to watch again, then ordered the two others that had lasted this long; the kids were fascinated & horrified - not just by the fashion/hairdos - and talked about it for weeks afterwards. I can't tell you what an effect it had on me back when I first watched it as a teenager; it's probably why I am a prepper (in a minor way) to this day. The feeling that it could all fall apart quite quickly has never really left me.
I didn't like the ending, though - getting the hydro-electric power grid up & running again seemed to mean that they were just going to make all the same mistakes all over again... I know they re-made it a while back, but the few snatches that I watched just didn't seem to have the raw power of the original series.Angie - GC Jul 25: £225.85/£500 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -

. And it won't matter a jot that we'll lose things like modern dentistry!
I suspect there will still be all the old human evils - it's just that the hands on the clock got wound back and it'll be same old, same old but on a smaller scale. And eventually we would get back to where we are now. Maybe we're on an infinite loop.

One thing I always wonder about. When I went to primary school, around the late 50s, loads of kids had chilblains, cold sores and that gentian violet on their faces, or iodine. I presume for things like impetigo but not sure. I wonder if that stopped due to better nutrition or hygiene or housing? Would that come back ..?
most certainly they'd come back, skin conditions will be one of the most commonplace illnesses in a post SHTF world. without proper diet, sanitation, and/or shelter you'll see a proliferation of things that still happen now but are so uncommon that we now pity the poor souls rather than accept it as an unfortunate aspect of life in general.
better diet, santiation and shelter have helped humankind along enormously healthwise, good preparation would also include knowing natural replacements for soap, brushing your teeth and dealing with nits and insect bites etc etc.
also making a mental note of what plants offer what vitamins in abundance and understanding the role of these vitamins play in our health would also be very beneficial for long term survival. it's sad to say that despite having all this information at our fingertips most of us are still clueless. knowledge truly IS power.0
