D&DD good to see you around again. I hope your eye problems get sorted very soon. You would be very much missed at the Ikea meet in a few days! xFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0

You are right, but I do not think things will ever get that bad. We are not talking about mad max here are we? But Greece and the other problems in other areas are an idea of what is coming, and worse as all the currency collapses around the world. Silver bullion is always the money of first and last resort when currencies fail.
Yeah, that's true. I suppose it's good for a medium-level SHTF situation.0 -

And this is not the place to be spouting about people spouting religious stuff. If someone thinks the Bible is important (and gives them comfort) why do you care?0 -
Religion has much to answer in many nations. Let's leave our views at the door.
I gave up on god when I became a nurse. Nobody should suffer the way some people do.0 -
I put my priorities in prepping in the following:
Shelter, water, food, fuel, then other emergency things like first aid kit, communications, warm clothing, seeds etc....they are going to be a lot more practical use to me than the bible or bullion in a SHTF situation.
Here are a few of the Greek political groups/sites that report the news items (I have listed ones not owned by the government...)

Well said 2T - I put my trust in my own two hands and the skills I have in my head. In a real SHTF situation they are the only things that are truly reliable.0

Were paper money was worth nothing at all, and that wasnt all that long ago, it looks like it is going to happen to Greece were you wont be able to get a loaf for less than a couple of hundred Euros. The problem with the EU is that it has gotten too big too quick. I do not trust Merkel with my life. She is a female Version of Hitler! I feel for the policemen and the Firefighters who havent been paid. They must be totally dedicated to their jobs. I would work for free and I have done at the local hospice if it made a difference to the economy.
Actually if Greece comes out of the euro the official plan is to declare it on a Friday evening as the banks close. They will stay closed until all local accounts are converted to a new currency, however long it takes to do. You will not be able to use any Euros that you have to buy anything, as it will no longer be a valid currency. They will not take credit cards either in this situation should it happen and no ATM will have money in it. No shops will be open as they will not be allowed to trade until the tills are converted to the new currency as well. You will be left to survive on what you have or what you can barter for ......for as long as it takes to sort out the currency changeover. They cannot make you change any foreign currency deposits to the new currency though.“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. If only it were as simple as the risk of financial ruin (bit late for us as Greece is already ruined). There are all the other risks of the SHTF, not least of all the horrendous weather that has been striking various countries. Last winter over a thousand people died by freezing to death in Europe and most of them froze in their own homes.
The SHTF scenarios take in a very wide variety of things that could happen..earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, floods, freezing temperatures, solar flares...the list is endless and those are just the most likely ones to happen. They are already happening to someone on this earth every single day of the week. Just because the risk does not seem likely where you live doesn't mean someone else isn't suffering from it already.
I realise looking at the list that Greece is vulnerable to most of the SHTF scenarios...but I love living here and I can't think of anywhere else I would rather be when it does hit the fan.
I can see your point about the gold and silver if currency fails...but if its something like a tidal wave that wipes out half of Europe or a total EMP that stops all communications and trading then water and food are going to be the thing everyone wants....gold and silver would be worthless in a world reduced to absolute basics.“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. When in a state of security he does not forget the possibility of ruin.” Confucius (551 BC - 479 BC):A0 -
