Something occurred to me last week when I saw a picture of Michael Gove. Didn't he use to be the little boy on the Mad Magazine cover?

Just bought a wind up lcd torch so no batteries required...thinking about some wind up laterns, even a wind up radio.
I've had a little wind up torch for years. Bought it from Asda for about 3 squid. I use it when the battery on my regular torch runs out. There are two light settings which I suppose would be useful if you wanted to go about your business without attracting too much attention. ;)
I did have a wind up lantern but broke it quite quickly (overwound it seems).
  • ... and just when you thought you werent doing owt wrong buying clothing made of "fleece" (as its recycled plastic bottles right?....) and you read this morning's papers and find out that actually you are....

University research has indicated that when washing these fleeces the fibres from them dont get trapped in your washing machine filter (ie too small for that) and just head off into the sea and into the guts of marine life. Botheration....and thats me not going to buy another one of those fleece "jackets" then when my current one wear out. Now what do I do about washing my current one? More to the point - my dressing gowns are fleece and they are the warmest type I've encountered over the 40 odd years I've been wearing dressing gowns....so what ones am I going to look for instead that are just as warm/"easy"/etc?

Head hurts and just reminded myself "Well - you're not doing any of the really Big Polluters money at least....".

It just aint possible to live a life on Planet Earth and keep one's "hands completely clean"...but I shall "hunt harder" next time I'm clothes-shopping then...

:) How absolutely fascinating - I read the Guardian website regularly and have been driven nuts by their relentlessly pro-EU stance, so much so that if it was a dead-tree paper that I was paying for, I'd be cancelling the order with my newsagent.
I have the Guardian as my home page. Think I'll have to change that as I'm often drawn to the Comments Section and it's not doing my blood pressure any good. For months now there have been some really venomous things said - primarily from the remain side and now targetting older people. Ironically displaying the very bigotry they are accusing others of. Some surprising comments are left to stand despite going against the T & Cs and negative but inoffensive articles about the EU have been taken down. One person recently was driven to repeated posting asking people to bookmark the link before it was taken down.
It becomes almost a pleasure to read reasoned comments which are pro EU but not full of insults. Indeed I've bookmarked some to read later. I don't think I'm about to start 'batting for the other side' but I'm more inclined to give a different opinion some thought, if it is backed up by reputable sources and not accompanied by vitriolic accusations.

Thanks for that GQ, an interesting read. I used to read the Archdruid then my computer threw a wobbly and synchronised all my bookmarks with - nothing! I'd forgotten about this one, now saved

    Interesting article, thank you GreyQueen.

Hmm - Michael Gove Mad cover, definite resemblance.
I always think that Nigel Farrage bears an uncanny resemblance to Rygel the puppet from Farscape, (Google images) but that could just be my aging eyesight :)

Another one here liking the Archdruid - I don't think I've ever read it properly - will do now :)
