I'm sorry if my contribution is not acceptable and irrelevant to the current discontent, I'll remove me and my 'unacceptable' thoughts and posts for a while, good luck!
please accept my apologies. i think we are all getting a little heated on what is, after all, a prepping thread. At least i am.
I will take a back seat for a few days, maybe longer, to calm down and take stock.
i have always valued your opinion (and GQ and others) and certainly don't think this situation will be resolved by all of us falling out.
Off to lick wounds....... As you were. I will recover my sense of humour anon, I hope.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -

If the result had been remain, I doubt if we'd have found ourselves in the current position of needing a new PM, the Labour Party imploding and the financial markets in turmoil.
In one short week after the result, that seems a whole lot of uncertainty, which appears to have been created by the Leave voteEarly retired - 18th December 2014

Moving forward, I see Boris Johnson has stepped aside. Theresa May would probably get my vote (if I had one) though Andrea Leadsom will be one to watch.
Theresa May came across very well in her press conference.
As for Boris, you couldn't make it up - one of the chief architects of Brexit isn't putting his hat in the ring to sort out the aftermathEarly retired - 18th December 2014

We should all feel free to post our comments.
But in the nature of Internet forums, other people will have different thoughts and views. It's normal to challenge and enquire about views you may not share, in order to get a better understanding of other people's beliefs.
Nothing is personal - for me, I just want to understand, and to make my point that the result is a seismic shift in our country's future, and emphasise that maybe we should all be very worried about that future.
I've read the OS board a lot, and I've read about what's happened to people in the past - a lot of experiences I've shared.
But this particular issue is about the future, and I was trying to understand the mindset of people who feel differently to me about the future .
I don't want to cause offence, I just want to understand.
But on reflection, this board isn't the place for genuine discussion.Early retired - 18th December 2014

'If we aren't being taught to grow our own food, how to take care of ourselves, families and friends, and how to live without the need of huge governments, banks or corporations - as our ansestors once did - then we aren't being educated; we are being indocrinated to be dependant and subervient to the system. I did NOT see that coming!! Although it was fairly clear there were splits in the Gove/Johnson camp after that character assassination piece this morning on Gove's wife in a certain broadsheet for which Boris writes regularly.
Don't suppose Gove expects to win, may actually not want to win (he has said he really doesn't want to be PM often enough) but it was a very effective way of disposing of Boris - who was clearly backtracking on free movement (didn't think immigration was an issue in the vote, pshaw!!). And he is in with a very good chance of heading up the new department to negotiate Brexit that Teresa May has promised whereas BoJo might have given that role to OsborneIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Mulling over what people have said about the Germans... I really don't think they are aggressive or arrogant or all the other things that are hurled at them.
But I do think they are oblivious to others. (You've only got to go a few miles on the autobahn to see that) Once they have convinced themselves that something is logical and rational they simply don't stop to consider if it is wise. And so they plough on until it all goes pear-shaped. And everyone else has to pick up the pieces.
With any luck this will force them to stop and reconsider whether what they are doing is wise. Greece they could dismiss despite the suffering caused by an intransigent stance. They have to give heed to the loss of the second biggest budget contributor and one of their biggest marketsIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. With the uncertain times we now find ourselves in... I'm going to join this thread. Whilst I think us getting out of the EU will be good for us in the long term, it's going to be a period of economic uncertainty. Personally I think the EU will eventually break up. Just look what happened over the Greek crisis...
Anyhow, I'm not into politics. Veg growing is more my thing:). We now have 2 allotments and am glad we do as food prices could potentially rise if the £ is weakened.0 -
I never take anything personally, even when it's meant that way lolol. What other people think of me is their business, not mine, and I don't care. I do care that MrsL who is one of the founders and mainstays of this thread, is now feeling hurt and upset. Pull yourselves together please people and don't let politics influence you to hurt your friends! And lets get back to prepping for goddsake and leave Europe to get on with it!0

Hi Crochet Flower!! Welcome
Two allotments!! What do you do in your spare time, lol?
And although you are not into politics, just a thought - some food prices will fall because there are high external tariffs set by the EU. Tate & Lyle told their employees Brexit wouldn't hurt their business because the tariffs on a single boat load of sugar top £250,000 which is used to subsidise competitors in the EU - although that presumably includes British Sugar. Anyway, the point is that it isn't quite as straightforward as you might think
But growing your own on that scale will certainly insulate you from a lot of food price inflation. How do you store your surpluses - or do you have a large and grateful extended family? It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0
