:) Nah, they haven't mentioned that. They are inviting me to play their online flood game or summat like that. I have a life of deathless excitement and glamour............:rotfl:

My lottie neighbour who was a scientist with this region's water company has moved away or I'd be picking his brains. I keep a close eye on the river but it's behaving itself down here in the city centre but a bit high half a mile away where it goes thru the park. It's a heavily-managed river with lots of staunches (is that the word?) on it but it has a colourful history. Well, downright murderous history in times past.

 They've boated in the streets in my neighbourhood; I've seen the piccies.

Well, going off to play an online floodgame as Brad Pitt has unaccountably not popped over tonight to make me a better offfer. <<sigh>>:D

ETA What's so funny about Floralys t.p. ? It's recycled, you know. I go straight to heaven on the escalator for using recycled t.p.

Used to know a woman who was appalled by the concept even when I told her that it wasn't toilet paper the first time around........

I may be about to get knocked off my perch as Inventory Manager. Vanoonoo originally awarded me the title of "Rolling in it" because of my stash of loo rolls but that was a bit unfortunate in the context of the thread title:rotfl:

However the physio gave me the all clear to drive again so I'm off to restock on those and choccie bikkies - DDs have been lamenting the lack since I've been restricted to shopping with a wally trolley. My protestations that chocolate biscuits aren't REALLY an essential fell on decidedly stony ground:D
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

Regarding the pasta sauce, got some jars of dolmio for just 50p a jar in my local b & m bargains-not sure how many stores they have country wide but if they are selling it the other discount stores may get it in. Otherwise I make my own with tinned toms/homegrown toms, garlic, herbs etc.

Yes we too have an assortment of torches, some standard and small windup and also wind up head torches. Also being a sucker for a bargain got some stick on led lights from nettos ages ago. I find myself looking at stuff knowing that if the or should I say when it happens this or that will come in handy. I seem to have been in prep mode or siege mode most of my life and as a consequence have become a bit of a hoarder. Keep meaning to declutter but you never know whats round the corner. When we had a new mattress 3/4 yrs ago I carefully removed the polythene cover and kept it. Could be used for shelter, rain collection and alsorts of other things. I find myself buying alsorts of dried foods and sauces etc that I would never normally buy but that would be good in an emergency. When Milletts shut I got sleeping bags and various gadgets/tools/cord. I love small multi use things and can't resist.
    On my wish list
Portable solar power, still have to research this.
    Portable water distiller, still researching.
    decent fire starter
Proper first aid kit, any suggestions as to what to include welcome.

Thanks to everyone for making me so welcome :)

:hello:Hello and welcome, siegemode, glad to have you posting and hope that many more lurkers will come out to play.

:hello: Ok, I confess. I am a lurker. I have been lurking here quietly, secretly hiding my stash of tinned tomatoes, sweetcorn, potatoes etc...
I also admit to knowing where the camping gas stoves and gas lamp are, as well as my stash of candles. Oh, and the LED battery lamps (3) and the wind up torch/radio.

Last week, I went shopping in the big [STRIKE]town[/STRIKE] (sorry, it's now officially a city) and was given a leaflet entitled "how to prepare for an emergency" and a luggage-style label with the words "emergency grab bag" on one side, and a checklist of relevant items on the back. The last item on the list (after prescription details, first aid kit etc) says "what else? (chocolate is always useful)"

    Sounds sensible!

So, please may I come out of lurkdom and join this happy band? My skills include the ability to crochet a doily out of carrier bags... Who knows what else I could conjure up given the right circumstances????

welcome Chipps, Im a fellow carrier bag crocheter, we could make a tent between us :rotfl:

Been to MrT and re-stocked a few bits after the dreaded sciatica attack of October. Have to admit to being a bit low on the toilet rolls though :o:o Will adress the problem forthwith before my membership is revoked. I too was shocked at the rise AGAIN in prices and stuck to my economy purchases checking weights and prices avidly.

Convinced my Mum that the gift vouchers she needed for Big Brothers materialistic family could be bought painlessly for her by me at Mr M and I got a petrol voucher :j So we can put our Christmas petrol in cheaper thus being prepped for mercy dashes. I find things often go wrong when you are low on fuel and the idiots are stocking up on it for the 24 hour holiday.

Government have found crisis and discontent to steer us away from financial matters again - sorry my favourite soap box rant - not taking away from the terrible things that are happening to people of course, except for the bl**dy politician who is embarrassing them in the jungle while unknowingly her life falls apart in the media.

Oh well off to do something useful for an hour or so. hugs ginny
