I expect very little from him I've never found him to be a pleasant person. And shouting at people won't make them warm to or agree with his views. I think I was more shocked that boris' sister was on the boat with him, even If she has opposing views to her brother it was a very public way to snub him.
I was using the 'sir' sarcastically as I don't think he deserved it. I even read recently that he charged $100,000 dollars to speak at an anti poverty dinner

For years, members of the general public have been shot and stabbed, and the various Governments have done precious little about it.

I wonder if, now it's happened to one of their own, they'll actually get around doing something worthwhile about it?

    That's quite an ugly post.

Except that Bob Geldof did more to raise both money and awareness for Ethiopia than most other folks. He took in his ex wife's child when she was orphaned and appears, for the most part, to act with integrity. (I did say, for the most part). We don't know what the dinner was for or who paid him or what he did with his fee (though he does need to make a living...).

Don't really know what went on yesterday so i can't comment.

RIP Jo Cox. I have a feeling this won't be the only blood shed....

I am saddened by her death, and sad for her family, especially for her children Grief is not the prerogative of one sector of society alone. It hits each of us regardless of our colour, creed, political beliefs, our material wealth or our poverty.
John Donne said "Any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved with mankind"
I believe that this is as true of Jo Cox as of any other human being.

Agreed - and also utterly disrespectful.
  • We humans are an odd species, we cry our eyes out over a drowned kitten but it would appear kill with ease and little conscience a member of our own kind. I don't know what led up to the death of Jo Cox or the motivation behind the act from the killer but I really do think that the reality of deaths from violence is blurred for many by the games available for games consoles, the content of TV programmes (who amongst us doesn't enjoy a good detective series of murder mystery?), the 24 hour news coverage of events around the world, the violence of war and nationalists, the violence of and between even football fans and drunken youth on a night out. We've lost sight of the fact that life is precious and frail and sacrosanct that we don't have the right to take that life no matter how much justification we might feel in righteous anger and justification. Killing is WRONG no matter why, no matter where, no matter who. We've lost the guidelines set down in religion one of which states clearly THOU SHALT NOT KILL, the brakes have been removed and we have no guidance as to how to restrain our more bestial impulses and the result is the death of a young woman and mother who was by all accounts a good and honest hard working girl, had done much good in this careworn world and was likely to do more good in her capacity as a member of parliament. A very unnecessary and sad loss. Unless we teach the next generations that life is not always about ME and what I WANT, teach them as well as their 'RIGHTS' the 'WRONGS' too we have created a society that only looks inwards and has no understanding of community and an individuals place in it.
  • Boy...am I ever glad I'm reached retirement age. A large "nail in the coffin" for middling-level or so office jobs.

Definite SHTF time for people needing that type of job...and that type of thing was worrying me pre-retirement as to what other options there would be on the table for a job.

:( If Amelia is as unreliable as much of the IT I get to use on a daily basis, I'm not too worried about my job.

I wonder how well it copes with the many and varied forms of mental illness which members of the public suffer with, and which they inevitably bring with them to interactions with local authorities? We have some people we can only interact with because we have particular experience, gathered over many years, of dealing with exactly their particular issues. Even then, it's a kid-glove process.

I guess in this bright new world, we'll all be on the dole being interacted with by Amelias. And no one will be able to pay any taxes because no one will have jobs and the system will implode

Except for the brightest buttons, who will be researching explosives and planning to take this creature down at its nest by blowing up the servers hosting it.:rotfl:I know where a FTSE 100 financial company keeps its servers - huge buildings - and I won't be the only one with that knowledge.
