:( Yeah. I was reading How Not to Get Killed in a War Zone by Rosie Garthwaite recently. She's ex-Army and now a journalist. She points out many things she's seen, including how loving and decent men will trample other people's small children underfoot to get food and water for their own small children.

When it gets ugly, it's very ugly, as we're wired to survive and our instinct is to protect our kin above all others.

Which is why you need to keep your OPSEC and be prepared to dispense charity at one remove, as you wouldn't want to be known as the household with the cupboards full of food or you might well find yourself making involuntary donations to the most aggressive members of society, and having your own family go hungry as a result.

Trouble is that even my dd`s and ds think I am a bit whacky and only one has some stores. They think they will cope but have no idea what it is really like. Having said that, I was in my 20s and with a young family when shtf and people can cope provided they learn to adapt pretty darn quick. However that was then and there were small shops all over the place, so easier to get stuff quickly besides which most of us could cook a meal from nothing

2T is spot on, people should take note. It is unbelievable that parts of america are treated like 3rd world areas. Thoroughly shocking

edit: last place I lived at was a leasehold development ie people fairly close together. Neighbour opposite was ex army 30ish and from a `forceful` background. He found out I had stores and once said `I know where to come` so that is why none of my neighbours know in my village

Just to take my mind off things I am very interested in strange weather phenomena and have started carrying my camera with me all the time. I need to find out how to do a time exposure with it though as I saw something very strange the other night and got very poor quality photos of it. I went out to look at the full moon but noticed strange lines coming out from it, right across the sky (like laser lines but thicker) you can see them on the photo but they are not as clear as I would like .

I heard of a very strange event from two different people who live in the same village on the opposite coast to me. They both saw a huge arc of light in the clear sky (like a rainbow, but white) then a huge purple/blue sphere with lightning coming out of it. I asked if it was ball lightning but no rain and no thunder and it wasn't like anything portrayed as ball lightning on you tube or the internet. So we are none the wiser.....I just wish I had been there with my camera...it does have a video setting! How annoying to hear about it but not see it!!!!

Good luck for your scan, both getting it done and the outcome ...

The problem is she saw the white bow at night not in the daytime and the sky was clear. The moon was not near to the bow to cast light...and I have no explanation whatsoever for the purple orb with lightning.....

I have had an idea...I am going to send an email to the local astronomers if I can find their email address online!:j

  • I think you are very sensible KITTIE, the only people who know about our stores are the girls and my brother, and that's the way I'm keeping it. I never have deliveries to the house, what I've managed to accrue has been purchased one at a time and I bring it home, so no one has a clue and that is my safety net!!! and thatis the way I intend to keep it, Cheers Lyn xxx.

My problem is both my DDs think Mum's Armageddon cupboard is hilarious and they regale their friends with choice jokes about my strange obsessions. So no keeping that totally quiet

I have not mentioned my full cupboards, fridge/freezer/pantry and store of food. I could last months(possibly the whole year)my only concern would be if I yhad to relocate and the place was smaller and space was a premium.

But as said before as I only have to think of myself and visitors are few...I don't care if the living space has crates of food on show...all I care about is being well fed and saving money as food prices go up.

But if I am allowed to put up shelves I could then draw a curtain across...even if the shelves are floor to ceiling.

Most people locally have no idea of my food store(My own personal foodbank)but you know not one person I have mentioned it too have laughed or thought me strange. The opposite is true...they have said it is a good idea and...then said..."I think I will do something similar" or "Guess what! I have a store of food too!"

Even without a disaster of some kind, they are doing it for economic reasons and some have thought about even if the weather turns bad and they can avoid going out so they don't have a fall on the icy paths/roads that these days are often left untreated.

But people are worried about the austere measure coming in, keeping their jobs, low wages and prices going up and benefits being taken away and so on...

So for those who find it funny...let them...I know which camp I would rather be in...
