OOoohhh, never heard of that storybook but I like it. I'm declaring myself a Tigerpig immediately (rushes off to edit sig):D

Very quiet night for trick or treating. Those that did visit were, as always, polite and said thank you. Think the weather put them off:eek:
No one called on Halloween and the fireworks over October have been non existant and nothing to speak of over the Bonfire weekend...seems to be dieing out here...This is what I'm reading -

and its quite scarey, making me think. TY to whoever mentioned it. The comparison between America then and Britain now is gobsmacking.

Have been out most of the day taking photographs and walking on the deserted beaches...lovely day with 26 degrees in the shade. By the time we came home it was looking stormy again but never mind, it was gorgeous while it lasted.
News from America....the other storm is deepening off the east coast and it looks like it might be nasty, especially with all the devastation already. The American news sites and disaster forums are now warning the people to prepare for the storm but unfortunately there seems to be an attitude of ''this can't happen twice'' and ''is this a joke?''. I have been posting all afternoon, begging the people to seek shelter and at least go somewhere safe and warm as the night time temperatures are going to be below zero and the daytime around 7 degrees. Just hope they will listen to me eventually.
The West coast of America also has strange weather conditions and some are predicting a large earthquake. I truly hope they don't get one.
Meanwhile this is going to be a crunch week for Greece, there are so many strikes this week I can't even start a list of them. The power company (there is only one now as the others stopped trading) have declared they are starting the 48 hour rolling strikes on Monday evening and if any networks get damaged (by storms for instance) they will not be able to mend them.
There are two crucial votes in the Greek parliament, one on Thursday and one (bizarrely) on Sunday night at midnight. That is the major one on whether they all agree to the new measures. Some do and some don't and many have resigned so the vote is going to be very close. The EU are supposed to let Greece know if they are getting money a few days after that. Personally I think the S will H TF very soon....the EU have internal arguments going on about the money and the Greek banks cannot sort out selling the bonds or paying the interest due next week.
I have an appointment for my scan for my thyroid tomorrow night and really hope the power will be on for it to be done. Otherwise it might be ages before I get to see the specialist since they are also going on strike, even though the one I see is private. It's all very frustrating and confusing.
Glad I stocked up as the ferries will not run three days this week ,which means some food stocks could be down or delayed in arriving. I have lots of candles, torches, oil lamps, food, water and goodness knows what else. We also have a ton of firewood but since its still unusually warm I shouldn't need to light the fire yet. I am optimistic that we can cope with just about anything and still stay cheerful but it worries me how clueless some people are as to what is going on around them!
Just to take my mind off things I am very interested in strange weather phenomena and have started carrying my camera with me all the time. I need to find out how to do a time exposure with it though as I saw something very strange the other night and got very poor quality photos of it. I went out to look at the full moon but noticed strange lines coming out from it, right across the sky (like laser lines but thicker) you can see them on the photo but they are not as clear as I would like .
I heard of a very strange event from two different people who live in the same village on the opposite coast to me. They both saw a huge arc of light in the clear sky (like a rainbow, but white) then a huge purple/blue sphere with lightning coming out of it. I asked if it was ball lightning but no rain and no thunder and it wasn't like anything portrayed as ball lightning on you tube or the internet. So we are none the wiser.....I just wish I had been there with my camera...it does have a video setting! How annoying to hear about it but not see it!!!!“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. (((2tonsils)))) hope that you and the rest of the people in Greece stay safe. Will be listening to the news and thinking of you.
Re time exposures, I think you have to do these on tripods, don't you? You definately used to have to on film cameras and I see people with digi cams and little tripods sometimes.
Best of luck with capturing the phenomenon and I have no clue what the moon might have been lighting up like lasers.
Was chatting with my Dad tonight on the phone. He's very thoughtful guy, keen student of history and the conversation wandered around to prepperish things, led by him, chiefly the expectation we moderns have of electricity at the flick of a switch and water out of taps, 24/7.
Wasn't always so and he and Mum were young parents in all the shenanigans of the 1970s and can remember the shortages etc. I can remember them too, bread strikes and sugar shortages.
A lot of people under 30 will have no concept of how things can go bad very quickly and if we have a harsh winter in the UK we're notoriously bad at coping and if you added power outages into the frame, a lot of people wouldn't know how to cope.
Best hope it doesn't get that bad but I can't get those images of those poor souls in the USA getting water from fire hydrants and scavenging for food after one week........can you imagine if it was one month and counting???????????:eek:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

2tonsils,
Setously scary stufff going on in the States and in Greece(even when I hear what is broadcast by the BBC)more likely to be heard on the World Service than the domestic stations but even their WWS service no longer broadcasts as much European news as they used to...it is more likely to carry more stories about the States.
Wishing you well for your test tomorrow...
Belated good wishes Meme30 abut your Grand Daughter:)

I have been busy spreading the word about getting food stocks in, candles, fuel etc ....both to my friends in Greece and my friends in other countries. We are all threatened by different things and you lose nothing by being prepared in advance just in case. Yes, the photographs are haunting to say the least and I can't help but think how this storm is going to affect them emotionally even if it's nothing like Hurricane strength. To think about being plunged into sub zero temperatures when you have the minimum of shelter and supplies is too awful to contemplate.
I will keep you updated as much as I can, although we will lose the wifi internet if the electric goes off. I will be charging all my things tonight, phone, lap top, kobo, torch etc just in case and will keep them charged.
The political situation is out of my hands of course and I have given up trying to figure out what they are up to...its more complicated than anyone can imagine and I am not sure who the winners are...but I definitely know who the losers are already.....“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. Grinning at the screen over tigerpig and then a huge grin descended upon my face when I saw that GQ had infact changed her signature. That's my tonic tonight. Thank you!
I can't really call myself a prepper really, just someone who has a bit more of things she uses than she really needs... just in case. Why do I do that? I guess it's because I feel more secure really.0
