My Ds calls my prepping cupboard my World war 3 pantry, he didnt know it existed till recently when I heard the words 'Mum we ran out of tea bags' as I was busy at the time I said look in the cupboard in my office, the next thing I heard was 'Bl**dy hell woman' and peels of laughter. Anyway I piled my boxes of things to sell on fleabay in there right next to my pc so I can get listing it all. It also made me aware that I can actually fit a lot more stuff in there after I finish selling I just need another matching shelf unit from Ikea put it in front of the one I have and make my shelves double the depth :jC.R.A.P.R.O.L.L.Z #7 member N.I splinter-group co-ordinater

This is what I'm reading -
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/B000VHDY9G/ref=dp_olp_used?ie=UTF8&condition=used
and its quite scarey, making me think. TY to whoever mentioned it. The comparison between America then and Britain now is gobsmacking.0 -
Im having a really dense moment, is this a special tin or a 'normal' tin box?
Super post btw :TThank you. I was planning on using a baccy-type tin (Nuatha was thinking along the same lines). Basically, any metal container that completely surrounds its contents with absolutely no gaps (overlaps are better than butt-jointing as it's the gaps which are the no-no) will be a de facto Faraday Cage and the EMP will pass over it. Good to know about the arcing not ruining it.
I was planning on a baccy-type tin with the drive nestled in foam and the edges sealed with gaffer tape against dust ingress.
Now, I've never bought a USB drive (have 6 USB ports on my steam-driven desktop PC) so is there anything I need to know? I assume that they don't all have the same capacity? Any tips would be appreciated.MrsLurcherwalker wrote: »Morning all, DD2 is back safe and sound and is currently in baggage reclaim waiting for the luggage. I'm sitting here not knowing whether I want to laugh or cry at the moment, as I feel like doing both. The relief is almost unbearable but I'm so happy they are out of New York and feel so worried for their friends who live there and all the other people who have now to deal with the aftermath of the hurricane. Thank you all for your support and good wishes, It has really kept me going through what has been an extremely difficult few days, Bless you all, Cheers Lyn xxx.WONDERCOLLIE, hope you get sorted with your teeth, LYN THE LURCHER (sorry couldnt help my self) i so glad your family are home safe and sound such a relief for you all big hug xxxx and an update on oh redundancy his date is for 29th November termination day, so he got another whole month out of it yayyyyyyyyy and THANK YOU ALL ON THIS THREAD FOR YOUR KIND THOUGHTS AND UNDERSTANDINGS (at my ramblings on) I THANK -YOU XXXXXXXXXXXGood news that the bad news is finalised, hun, and that you have an extra month's salary to put into the plan. I bet there aren't many households as well-prepared as your own so give yourself a big pat on the back.
Mar, I'm another one for knowing where the exits are and I always like to sit with my back to a solid wall where I can watch the whole room. Was probably a gunslinger in the Old West in an earlier incarnation. Or am actually bonkers.
I also get very stressed in certain stores, and in one particular mall, as I can't find the exits easily and get very fractious and jumpy and have to leave in a hurry. I guess it's the feeling of being trapped. I suppose the planners of these places want shoppers to wander around in a delightful trance, seeing all these things they weren't looking for and thus making all sorts of off-piste purchases, but it drives me back onto the street.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I think what you lot have got is a severe case of Common Sense!!!!! I absolutely hate the new style of layout in Sparks and Mensers where there are no obvious gangways through all the stands of goods. I hate going in there these days, I always have that thought 'What if there was a fire' and there is no obvious way to safety. I know they have fire exits etc, but in a panicing crowd I feel it would be lethal. Mind you they don't really sell anything I like or can afford these days so my buying is limited to a fresh baked Rye Loaf once a week, Cheers Lyn x.0

Great News Mrs LW

I love this thread, but it seems to move so fast its always a while to catch up reading.
We got great news at the hospital. The lumps OH has don't appear to be anything bad, just a combo of scar tissue and cyst. But the specialist said there looks to be infection still there and said GP's tend not to give a long enough course of antib's to get rid of these type. So Oh has 2 weeks worth of strong AB's and an appointment to go back. Poor love was poked and prodded alot though and the female medical student nearly made him jump off the bed. The male doctor pointed out that if she wasn't more gentle she might well get a few slaps of gents instinctively reacting if she wasn't more careful-when Oh jumped even the DR winced himself. Like I said to OH only a man really knows how it feels to be a man, like only a woman knows how if feels to be a woman-but thats the skill for a dr to learn how to look after the opposite sex whatever area they decide to work in.
The specialist said cancer in the tubes part where he has the lumps is as "rare as hens teeth" and that a specialist might only see one in their whole working life and that cancer lumps tend to have a strange jagged feel and clearly appear not to be part of the body, but its always best to check.
So all in all very relieved.
Lyn glad DD is back, must be a relief. So terrible for the people who have been struck by the storm. I notice there has been a lot of coverage about the US over here, but very little about the carribeen islands it devastated and the problems the storm caused in Canada.
2T batten down the hatches we will be-and we always have chocolate. In fact Aldi have just got their lovely beligium chocolate truffles rolled in flaked chocolate. They do dark, milk and white and they are delicious. £2 a box so not too bad compared to expensive chocs. Kids love em so got one box of each for our crimbo “hamper” (a drawer into which Christmas treats are hid then unpacked at Christmas like getting a hamper delivered). But as Oh and I were celebrating an extra box of my fav dark choc ahem “fell” into the trolley and will get eaten by us later on once the kids are asleep lol.
WonderC hate dentists here as so scared but was well pleased with mine the other day, he was careful and didn’t hurt as much as I thought it might. Worth paying for someone you can trust. I paid for a long time when my childhood dentist moved and went all private, but went back to NHS when this new surgery opened. The first dentist was a lovely older man who really helped with my phobia but he had to retire. The new man is around 30 ish I would say and is polish-but speaks perfect English. He is very softly spoken and so far seems very good so we count ourselves lucky.
Craigy OH has been made redundant twice in 2 years with a period on contract in the middle where he was literally given 1 hrs notice to leave as they had run out of work-nice. At least you get one more months wage to help with costs. Make sure you claim any benefits you can to get you through and good luck for job hunting. We found the area we could cut back on most was the household costs and the store cupboard/freezer really helped to spin out the redundancy. OH is currently self employed so we buy when we have money to use when we get a quiet week of work.
