I've clicked, by now, that the blimmin' adverts that come up when I view some web pages tend to be triggered by whatever I've been viewing on Am*zon. Howsomever, after reading yesterday's comments re tealights and their holders on here - I'm now frequently getting adverts for that coming up too - and I've not been reading about them anywhere else.
Shades of Jaws music...... Have "they" got cookies picking up what we are reading about on here...
It is because there are tracking cookies on most pages and these record what you are viewing and looking at so they can target you with ads. I do not experience this because I run cookie killers, javascript blockers which also stop them loading certain cookies and then multiple ad blockers. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -
Candles just are not cheap - and if we ever do get powercuts then the price will rise fast. I think solar lights are probably the way to go. I've got this house sorted so that we can manage fine without elect for a while - only thing that would seriously bug me is no internet but then I've got a houseful of books. We'd need to keep running off hot water though, as the pump for radiators wouldn't work. Probably have a big deep bath each every night and do a washing as well. Good job we don't pay for water like you down south eh!!It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0

Ask and if they say NO you're no worse off then if you hadn't asked at all! Cheeky but profitable! It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0

Whilst appreciating that lots of the advice is well intentioned I am perfectly capable of making my own assessment of the situation and competent to make my own decision as to what I vote. No political 'muscle' from either side of the debate towards me 'Joe Public' or the other side will influence my decision. I'm an individual, I can think, I can MAKE UP MY OWN MIND and live with the result of the decision that I make!Too true Lyn. I suppose we can't be cross at TPTB for thinking like that. We have so many in our society that expect to have everything laid out for them, expect to be informed about all insundry and expect to have someone higher up to foot the issues when our self centred members of society don't get their own way.
With that attitude on life I can see how TPTB think that the general public need to be informed and supported in making a decision.
Ladies, you'v got to remember, when it comes to grubiment & the twit's in charge, they all think we are daft, but on this thread, I think most of us have heared the old saying 'belive none of what you hear, and only half of what you see, and act accordingly, which is why we end up with such intresting conversations and usefull information like where cheap candles are and how to fix plubing problems.£71.93/ £180.000 -

I have been learning Spanish for the last few months and find reading their newspapers , interesting. They don't give the UK viewpoint at all of course. One of our relatives spends a lot of time in Italy and says that when there are political issues relating to the EU, there is lots to be found published for reading by the general public outlining the issues and details ,unlike here where you are told... 'think this -think that-everyone else is wrong....'0

I've been routing through my various rucksacks in preparation for possible summer camping trips, and I was thinking I might just leave my (spare) bag packed for if I need to bail.
It seems I've got:
Lead shot, Fishing line and a bunch of Hooks (no rod, but the reel's probably somewhere) in a little tackle bag.
A compass on a lanyard (I need a new map)
20 plastic whistles (It was 100 - work events)
2 magnesium fire strikers
A box of waterproof matches
3 old vaseline tubs of 'tinder'
Pencil sharpener (for making said tinder)
A small Hatchet
6 disposable (chemical) hand warmers
Fingerless gloves
'Ski' gloves
and a fleece hood/balaclava thing (you wear them under helmets I think - looks a bit like this)
A wind up radio/torch
A led head lamp (need batteries)
A mini wind up led torch
A mini solar 'lantern' (tiny)
Spare toothbrush/paste/hair brush/bobbles/phone/kindle charger.
100 individual anti bacterial wipes and some swing bin liners
A 10lt folding water bag
A 5lt folding water bag
Around 80ft of paracord and a roll of Duct tape (tent repair)
2 tarps (6x6 and 12x12)
A battered tin cup
I should have a kelly kettle and an aluminium 'cookware' kit somewhere, which should be accompanied by a bag with a handful of 'kindling', but I think it's in a box.
I got rid of my tent (a tree fell on it), but I'm not sure if I want a new one - I go camping with a friend who has a tent, and could jury-rig the tarps if needed.
I've got a bid on 50 water purification tabs, I need a new sleeping bag/liner, and I'm scouting for some cheap candles (a tea light is a cheats way of starting a fire).
I've also got about a kg each of sunflower seeds, dried apricots, dates, and banana chips, and I've a load of 'instant oat' packets, so I can keep some of them in the bag for 'emergency rations'.
I probably want to think about keeping some cash, and maybe a copy of my passport(?) in there. And maybe some paracetamol.
I guess the only thing left, really, would be clothes? Or am I missing something?
I'm about half full atm. That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.

In a SHTF situation, regular fishing is far too time consuming.
Better options are a gill net, or a night line.
Likewise, regular hunting isn't as time/energy efficient, as snaring/trapping.0
