I have seen domestic water extractors in promo videos which can pull several litres of water a day out of the air. With the problems in Flint with poisoned water supplies something like this makes a lot of sense from the prepper perspective.

Solar stills aren't a new technology and have the advantage of working, this is the most compact and portable system I've seen. I was introduced to it by a cyclist friend, have seen video of it working both attached to a cycle (far more efficient) and as a static system.
    I'm seriously interested.

frugalsod you can buy spiked rolling pins... ok so bluntly spiked rolling pins but there's such a thing as DIY isn't there. :D It's to aerate quiche pastry I think. Perfectly legit don't you think.

We're all goosed if we find ourselves in a situation where we have to defend our self defence actions. One look at my internet history will spell intent immediately!

We don't ban eggs either. We shouldn't be banning anything that people need to use in their lives and use responsibly. We should ban items that their sole purpose is to harm. That's my point of view.
Yes but eggs have other legal uses. So why ban eggs just because thousands of politicians deserve to be egged? Wouldn't it be better to egg someone than use a more deadly weapon.

I don't remember anything you've posted here that would cause major issues. Something having several uses is not a legal issue. As long as you can justify why you are carrying a perfectly legal item then the fact that you can use it in other ways in defending yourself does not preclude you carrying it.
If you used it offensively, then your internet history will (and should) count against you.

On the basis of being a cooked goose, I'm well and truly done for conspiracy in advance etc. So adding to that, on the matter of aerosols that it may be reasonable to carry discretely that may have a secondary function, someone reminded me of the small aerosol mint breath fresheners recently. (Does Martin get done for aiding and abetting or facilitating? No because the discussion is about what you could use to defend yourself in extremis that you may be carrying for its manufactured purpose and not about carrying illegal weapons, the geese survive to honk another day - incidentally they make excellent guard animals)

I was thinking more along the lines of eggs being smashed against a car windscreen as someone is driving. There were cases a number of years ago where eggs were smashed obscuring view. Driver instinctively set the wipers on with a spurt of water which makes the situation worse. Instinctively the driver pulls over where perpetrators from the group are ready to attack or steel the car.

I wasn't advocating the ban of eggs, I was just suggesting that something so innocuous could be used to intimidate or manipulate a situation.

Nuatha you do bring about a wry smile. I like it :D

I actually have such a rolling pin. I actually got it from a wool craft shop. I wanted it for rolling out dough for Knackerbrod crisp bread.

It would depend on where I was if it came to me to have to defend myself, as a youngster going round town n' clubing, it was my flat shoe's that got used, I always use to take them off and walk barefoot 'cause my feet were red hot after all the dancing, but now it's more likely to be someone trying something when I'm putting stuff in the car, so it's going to be shopping, normaly got a couple of tins of something each week or my oils from the 2nd job,as well as towels which can be thrown at someone whilst I dive in the car and lock it, if they break in and come upstairs I'll just throw the cat at 'em seeing as she sleeps with me and she hates being diturbed

You will not get into trouble over it. Even IKEA sells it. Though I wanted to make the giant sheets that you get in Sweden with a hole in the centre so you can hang it off a hook. I was eating quite a lot of crisp bread Swedish style and with an idea to clean cooking to make it myself. The only problem was how to dry it out for storage. I looked at using a dehydrator though that morphed into the use of a solar dehydrator so much cheaper to dry out.

Here is a photo of Knackerbrod. It is about 12 inches across.
