At work at the moment we apparently have someone hanging around at night by staffs cars(women only) . I haven't as yet come upon him, but have a small torch and my keys always ready to hit out with.

By chance the other day, I bought some chavtastic cheap perfume for work. It's a lady Gaga one, black liquid inside. Now, the top of this bottle is a 3 pronged weapon made of quite hard plastic. .......and would have a reason to be on my person. ...;) , and would hurt if shoved into someone's face were they to come after me.
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.

I personally think there is more chance of muggings.. So I think as been spoken about before, be aware of your surroundings, instead of looking for emergency exits, if you were in a shop, and there was a terrorist attack etc, look for shops/ offices etc that are open.. Occupied houses with lights on you could run to and knock their door, you can buy those personal alarms that when I was issued with one, for a job I was in many moons ago, they told me to activate it near their head/ ear of possible, to give you a few seconds to run, or boot them in the wotsits. I am sure there are self defence or martial arts classes, around the country that even learning the basics would be good.... Me I have a cattle prod.that we got as a standby if we get a very stubborn/ naughty pig.. Especially as we got our own boar.. Thankfully never used it..

Edit..... Just to make people aware.. Tazers are only ment for farmers/ smallholders .and notbment for general public..
Yes muggings are probably more likely, than other risks. Though I think that if you avoid being out late at night in dangerous situations then that does eliminate most of the risk. Being aware and avoiding taking chances are probably the best solutions and also cost nothing.

But you cant base your decisions on how to live your life around the fact we have to share the planet with people like that.

I'm currently tossing up when to go and see a film I fancy. I've got a group of friends who like going to see films - but none of them fancies this particular one. So I shall be going to see it anyway - of an evening - and walking to and from it at night. Admitted most of West Wales is about as safe as you can get:rotfl:- but I'd still see it wherever I was...

I have no intention whatsoever of letting anyone restrict the life I lead. The suffragettes fought for me to have the right to do that - and I would be disrespecting their memory if I didn't take advantage of the freedom they won for me.

We change the way we do things not because of those other people. It might be because there are no late night buses home or that the cost of a taxi is too much, it might be that the weather will be worse later on. These are typical reasons why we change how and why we do things. The real risks of being attacked are actually pretty slim, and the police will react when it happens. The real risks are considerably lower than public perceptions, and if you walk with purpose they are probably lower still.

Personally I would see a film in the afternoon as it would be cheaper not because I have concerns about any potential trouble in the evening plus TV is rubbish during the day so why miss out on the soaps as well?

    I never worry.
