Any of your colleagues been there in winter who can advise? Do you have any friendly contacts with the client whose brains you can pick?
I'm not much help, I stopped working the suit side of IT 20+ years ago, I either present as a Creative or geek.
Colleagues who live there say its quite mild this winter ... But there idea of mild seems to be different to mine! Most of us try not to travel in winter - and if we do we keep it local. I'm certainly not going to spend money on new stuff for the trip which will only be used once. And if I really do need anything I'm more likely to find appropriate stuff out there.
I must remember to take a big suitcase though!
Twiglet - I have Aigle Wellies too, I picked them up at my local 'tractor shop' as the kids call it ... (any farm supply shop is worth a look)0 -

I was an early adopter of fibre pile jackets (which evolved into fleeces) having known someone who supplied foul weather gear to oil rigs. After that I used to buy my winter kit on climbing trips to Norway, far better than most of the kit sold in the UK and generally a lot cheaper.
In your shoes I'd be tempted to lay in a new serious winter wardrobe whilst in Canada, knowing it would cope with just about anything the UK could throw at you. (Though from memory most of Canada does dry cold rather than the volumes of wet stuff we get here).
Incidentally I'd wear those cashmere socks as liners inside the loop stitch ones.0 -
Talking of coats....
It was the big 50 for me a few days ago. One of my gifts was a fab Rab jacket. I feel like a bit of a telly-tubby in it.....but they are great. I will never be cold on a beach walk again, as am snuggled and surrounded by lovely down. It has a hood...so the whole of me is saved from the weather..... :T. I could go to the arctic in it and be fine, it will hopefully last me years, if not for ever.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -

I think I'll be shopping out there - must make time for it! I'm keeping a vague eye on the weather and it does look like they're finally getting winter. As you say, dry rather than wet. I really do need to spend some time planning my packing - which means working out my laundry days!0 -
TY Nargleblast, sheep wandering in the road will remind me of home lol - and I do like the look of Whitby. Under the holiday town there is a wee old fashioned fishing port just like the one my dad was born in and my grandad had a fishing boat in.
I might try and get the RV to venture doon south into that scary land south of the border..
I second pure wool in hand knitted socks, toasty. Merino or Blue-Faced Leicester wool is warmer, Norwegian wool washes better. Cashmere is nice to knit too.
Grandma I looked at videos of Nalbinding because I love Vikings. It looks easy enough.
I wish I had a man who could build an Ark, the RV is sadly lacking in shipbuiilding skills. If this rain keeps on much longer I'm going to be the only MSEr still above water, marooned up here with nobody to talk to.0 -
Do you make socks on commission Mar? There could be a market for these by the sounds of things! I'm off in two weeks so it may be rather short notice...
I really do need to think about my work wardrobe. And hope they don't expect me to go outside!0 -
NO. After knitting them for the whole family for xmas I never want to see another hand knitted sock until July! sorry xx0

Just got in from work to find no heating on ...........again.....
Not a major issue as menopausal so don't have it on much anyhow....but house was like a ruddy fridge....and Asbo-cat is not amused one bit.
Just googled how to re pressure the 'something' vessel, and have decided it needs a plumber. I know how to do the main water pressure...but not this valve thingy. It looks complicated, so will have to text him. It's more having a hot shower i'm bothered about....plus don't want to damage the whole system by constantly having to top up the water when the pressure is wrong somewhere else.
Hmmmm.......i thought I was quite the plumber being able to top the water up..... :rotfl: it appears not.
Also, when googling about, i've been bleeding radiators without opening the radiator valves...so may have even caused this myself.....being a google/youtube plumber.....:D .
House was 11 temp when I got in, so will have to it before I get eaten alive by the cat. I have filled the water up so it's on for now, and she is immediately under a radiator.....bless, she is old.
Her xmas pressie was having fan heater on in the conservatory for 3hrs so it was like a sauna. She was in kitty heaven.
Actually, now I have my new coat, I could give her my old one as a bed (size 8!.....how depressing, that was only 5 years ago). She would love it as a bed. So when Asbo has a SHTF moment of heating not working....she can create her own radiator in a down jacket...:)
Still rain and wind here on the east coast, and set for a few days apparently.
MARDATHA.........I hope you don't get marooned....there will always be some MSE'r on the go somewhere.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
North east Scotland is in a bad way, and there's nothing on TV or news. Dozens of roads closed, rivers rising, sewage works flooding, Braemar cut off with no food deliveries now for 5 days, some of the members here are up there and can't get to work. Doctors surgeries flooded, people can't get their prescriptions as can't reach the chemist.... SHTF situation now and the media are nowhere.0

That's typical, it's because you aren't down south....or at the very least further down the country.
No food deliveries or people not being able to get medicine, as you say, is a SHTF situation.
So, people get to donate/muck-in to the media covered folk that need help, those that don't get covered on tv can just get on with it....charming.
They will have to send in copters with food then if the wind will allow, or by plane.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0
