Thanks for that Bob.
From what you say - I'm getting rather inclined not to bother then. I certainly won't be adding to my phone bill to ring a mobile phone:rotfl:0 -

Why not do it anyway, as it'll help the government get a more accurate picture of the country; that way a prepper and their spending/attitudes will get represented in their snapshot of the country!0 -
Many years ago me and my then significant other took part in a survey by appointment. Can't remember who was doing it but it had the ring of officialdom. We were offered payment too. Anyway I do remember that the questions got more and more intrusive. We had been told that it would be on hobbies and entertainment but questions gradually got more intrusive till it was almost entirely about things like alcohol consumption. The final coup de grace was when she announced 'This last question has to be addressed to the head of the household'. We said we didn't have a 'head of the household'. To which she responded that for the purposes of the survey we did and that it had to be my partner. I wouldn't care but I was the major earner! We threw her out with a flea in her ear without ever finding out what the question was (or receiving the dosh).0

I wouldn't because, as far as I'm concerned, the less TPTB know about me, the better.0 -
Happy New Year folks.........
A bit late, but I was at work, then asleep, then out.
Hope this year is good to everyone.
I am going to attempt the dry january.....except for the 5th (friends birthday) ...and possibly 17th or around then (another friends birthday).... So, not totally dry....but a good shot at it.... :rotfl:
Normally I would probably have a couple of bottles of vino a week....so it will be a definite cutting down.
It was absolutely blowing a hoolie here all yesterday evening and throughout the night. Bins all over the place, and chucking it down with rain. Rain for the next few days by the looks of it too, hope those already effected don't get any more.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
You and me both Calico re the dry January:(. I probably have normally been having two bottles of wine a week...
Add that I'm on that diet I've been meaning to do for some time now - that will be the Slimming World one I did (effectively) before now. Don't know what the "new language" means on the most "up to date" version of it. I just kept my books from last time round and working my way through them again. Have come to the conclusion that winter isn't the best time to do a diet - as I want interesting food to compensate me for crap weather and said weather isn't tempting me out into going for walks. But I do need some new clothes and want to be sure I have my figure back before that date I know for sure I will be back visiting near plenty of shops again - so I can buy those clothes okay (assuming no need to return sooner for present circumstances - still in lap of gods at present on that one).
Re hoolies - and all the rain had Got Very Old on me anyway - before last few weeks worth and reminding self to count blessings that I'm not one of the ones dealing with flooding problems. Currently reading a prepping book - a section of which was telling people not to be persuaded out of their home by The Authorities if they get flooded (ie that would be if they can retreat to an upper floor) and how The Authorities tend to want you out for their sake and not yours (as people are easier to manage when all stuck in a communal hall or the like, rather than in their homes and needing food etc deliveries). That made sense to me. The thought had crossed my mind that I'd be ringing up local takeaways (if I had any decent ones around....errrm....) and enquiring whether they had any staff with thigh-high wellingtons, boats or the like to undertake deliveries of hot food if The Authorities were unwilling/unable to do so. Could be a "gap in the market" there for enterprising take-aways with a mate with a boat?0 -

Is anyone else beginning to feel an internal drive to up the preps? I don't know where mine is coming from but I'm listening to it and will do a review of what we have and fill in any gaps in stores that I find. Nothing I can pinpoint is making me feel like this, nothing on the news or in the papers to precipitate uneasiness but I surely do feel unsettled, not at all like me!!!0

I'd say your subliminal urges are pretty on point!0 -
Happy new year everyone!!
Re- authorities wanting you out of your home and all being in one communal building/area is common sense and is also not putting the services in danger..what if you refuse to leave your house, and there was a gas explosion in the house next door to you, or a sinkhole happens due to the excessive water finding channels underground?? You become ill?? Sewage starts bubbling up through your toulet/ drains into your home?? The list is endless of the potential hazards to you and to the people who you expect to cater to your needs while staying put.
Mrs LW.. Follow your gutt instincts.
I am in the start of panic mode.. Re money etc.. And tbh I think this year is going to be hard year for alot of people.
Prices re- crops etc.. Unless this rain stops soon, then the ground will be too wet to plant early stuff, I should imagine it's also washed out alot of nutrients from the ground too??Work to live= not live to work0
