Preparedness for when

It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0

I don't take age into consideration when I'm prepping I'm nearly 68 and He Who Knows is nearly 71 but we still do everything we've always done it just takes a little longer and we need a sit down in the afternoon but we still run the garden, allotment, polytunnel, large greenhouse and walk the pub dog a minimum of 4 miles each every day plus all the rest of the domestic chores and life in general. Nothing's fallen off yet or seized up and we're both still standing, just keep on keeping on and don't take any notice of numbers when it comes to birthdays!!!0

Having a Will in place is important, however simple. It may also be worth getting Lasting Power of Attorney set up for both financial and health purposes. Mine are all done (awaiting final signatures), and I have promised the family and friends who have agreed to act as attorneys that I will write down detailed information about what I do and don't want. At the moment it simply says that they have right of decision on health matters (so they get to decide whether to keep feeding me or switch me off...), but I don't think it is fair to ask people to take on that kind of responsibility without leaving them some written guidelines. Obviously the guidelines aren't legally binding (and sometimes requests may not be legal anyway...), but at least they have something to refer to. Chances are that by the time someone else is acting on my behalf I won't really care anyway, but it is worth taking the time to choose attorneys carefully, and discuss it with them before nominating them.0

Just checked back on this post and the exact precise words used are "does anyone prepare for anything like" "personal end of life issues" .
I read that as being about prepping for "end of life issues" and NOT whether people "take age into consideration when prepping".
"End of life issues" can arise at any age and not necessarily in our 80s and beyond (as most of us expect to be the case).
Hence my main worry in my own case of "Will people listen to the EXACT PRECISE words I say? Will they read the EXACT PRECISE words I have put down on paper?" or respond to what they think I said (which may be very different to what I actually did say).0 -

I wonder if it's best to have someone who won't benefit from your will as your health attorney?0 -
Just popped in for a very quick reckie before work.
I have Will all sorted, a living one is something I need to sort.
How are things at the Hospital end MTSTM??Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
Calico,
Re hospital-wise - the hospital has sent my mother home. Neither my father nor I are convinced she should be. My father is very prone to take a "doctor knows best" attitude. My mother wanted to come home anyway.
She has pneumonia (as well as the ailment she went in with). She still is barely eating solid food (they've supplied her with that liquid type nourishment stuff they put through tubes by the sound of it). She is on morphine.
They clearly want to be "a couple together on their own" against the World type attitude is the way it feels to me - and I'm still under instruction from my father not to go back at present:cool:.
I'm updating my record of train times I could catch back on a daily basis - in case.
Time will tell...0 -

Awww....
The elderly, are as stubborn as mules Money. My dad was in hospital......and out as quick as a flash via me when he called demanding to leave.
Which did cause a little strain within the family.
To be honest, he knew he was at the end, and my job was to ensure he was exactly where he wanted to be at any given time. All we can do is support their wishes, as we would want ours to be.
Hope you are ok tooYep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -

I have a Critical Illness insurance policy, but, being single (with no dependents), I don't concern myself with post-mortal matters.
Once I'm dead, I won't have anything to be concerned about.
BTW. I've jumped the gun a bit, as there's still a little over 4 hours to go, but may I draw your attention to my signature, and, in particular, the figure entitled "Amount I have so far denied the BBC".:j0 -
