Karmacat, my van is an "enhanced" mid-conversion from S0uthern B0ng0s, so doesn't have a rock&roll bed; I wanted to keep the back seat (& seatbelt!) intact for transporting passengers. When I'm sleeping in it, there's a little pop-up arrangement that goes in front of the rear seat, flattened out, which theoretically sleeps two - very cosily! However, I can also remove the seat entirely, giving loads of room for stock, and just take my camp-bed, if I have only one passenger/assistant. They can sleep in the roof or take one of the little tents; we also have a tailgate awning, which works on OH's car too. So Mum could sit in the van, no bother; the difficulty would be getting her into it in the first place, as Bongos are quite high off the ground! Up 'til now she's used a step, but she couldn't cope with that now.

However, the goods news is that she does look & sound much better tonight. But they're keeping her on a half-dose of the new medication, as they suspect she's reacting to that too, albeit not nearly as badly.

Drat I just posted over on the garden gate thread instead of this one. Re the Ben Fogle channel 5 thing, I just watched it. I forgot if that was the Yorkshire Moors or Dales? Wherever it is, it looks just like here, apart from less hilly and more flat. I have lived in country like that for over 30 years and love it as much as that family do. Was a nice programme - but all those kids would drive me mad. She needs an extra collie for them lol

I was managing a safari camp in Uganda when a camp on the border with Rwanda was attacked by Hutu rebels. They killed some staff and abducted and killed some of the tourists - who were actually due to visit our camp next. We were in the middle of nowhere and sitting ducks. But what do we Brits do in crisis? We stocktake! We had a couple of very nervous British guests who I had counting cutlery to calm them down. Seriously we held a meeting with all the staff to formulate 'a plan'. But pretty much the best we could come up with was to run like hell at the first sign of anything untoward and try to melt into the surrounding forest.

Love them - but the Christmas tree one is the best!
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

Well it's a wet blustery one here in Cumbria. We are now cut off and the entire village green on both sides of the river is under water. Where I walked the dog yesterday is now a vast raging torrent. Cottages bordering the green are now sandbagged with water lapping round their garden gates and a farm further along already has a pump going. Ventured out to see the damage and ended up helping a couple barricade their home. Ping pong tables, benches, anything to hand. At that point the water level at their gable end was just below the top of my wellies.and rising. Even if it doesn't get in through the door, that surely can't do any good. The torrential rain is set to continue till tomorrow morning.
Meanwhile part of nearby Appleby is under water according to the news.
Anyway I've already cooked tonights meal in case the power goes out..I keep wanting to go out to see the latest but clothes get sodden in seconds and I'm running out of dry gear.
Note to self. Must get more PROPER waterproofs. :(

Same here pineapple, I walked down this morning to see how the wee burn was doing and its notta wee burn anymore lol - its two big fast deep ones! Parts of somebody's shed roof in my garden and a watering can went flying past my kitchen window. Hawick has the Tweed Valley mountain rescue out helping police and firemen evacuate people. The Met Office keeps upgrading warnings and the council putting out warnings that it's to get worse from now on. O fabby day lol

Everything flying around everywhere too over here in West Wales and tales of flooding in various bits.

I think I'm just getting more stoic (or something...) and if I look out at the weather and think "too bad to go out" then I wouldn't have prior to moving here. If I can see the "locals" are out and about as normal then I usually persuade myself to go out too - on the grounds that I presume it cant be dangerous or they wouldn't be out:cool:. I hope that's sound reasoning:rotfl:

I've still not worked out how to dress here though and basically it tends to be "Dress as normal - and...oh well.....I guess that means I'll just get soaking wet again and/or very windblown".:rotfl:. I see a lot of women in pull-on woollen hats - errrm...not for me - I'm not used to seeing women in them. I also see a lot of pretty "hefty style" boots being worn - errrm...I've not had any spare money available to buy myself any like that yet. I'll get there...

I seriously need to work out just how to manage a garden that gets howling gales blowing a hooley through it at intervals and loads of rain dumped on it frequently. I've learnt the garden furniture I brought with me simply won't stand up to the weather here and that's about as far as I've figured it out to date.

Well stay safe! I think I now understand the mentality of those idiot people you see standing on a stormy promenade. I stood on the bridge over the river marvelling at the waves, the rising waters and their speed while wondering how safe it was. A few brave souls had come out with cameras to see the scale of the damage and and to swap stories. There are people already flooded apparently and it is getting worse. My neighbour was distributing milk to a couple of vulnerable neighbours. It always seems strange to me that 'bread and milk' are seen as the essentials in an emergency. World War 3 could break out but as long as you can have a cuppa, it's all OK...
