Guess that means we should all be stocked up well with tea-making (make that coffee-making in my case) essentials now then.... - in case the current conflict isn't the 4th Arabic War, but the start of the 3rd World War:(0

Crikey. How many Tassimo pods would you need to 'see you out'?0 -
Hope everyone stays safe in this weather.
Makes me feel very lucky not to have been flooded as yet, horrid to have the place you are meant to feel safe in in peril.
It's blowing a hoolie here, but we have yet to get much rain. I think it's due tonight.
The garden gate has blown off it's ruddy fixings.... people have been fixing xmas lights all around me due to them being blown to bits. Trees that looked quite nice a couple of days ago now look absolutely trashed. Bins are all over the place that weren't in back gardens. There is a flashing santa that is now upside down....:D. ....and swinging in the wind. I have no idea how the reindeer on the roof of the house opposite is still standing..!?!
I think a lot of my plants in the garden will be ruined, but on the grand scale of the things that are happening to others i'm thanking my lucky stars that's my only problem so far.
The lights flickered a bit before, so not sure if this means the leccy could be a problem...have candles at the ready in case. Actually, I guess it could be all the outside decorations here taking up the national grid.... :rotfl:
Good luck folks for tonight's weather not doing further damage.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
Twice this week I have walked the school run with my pull on woollen hat, wellies and welly warmers. Folks don't seem to care what you look like in those situations in my experience and normally the looks come from those less suitably suited and booted. I tend to think they're looking a little lustfully at the dry warmth
We too have been battered these past 24 hours. The wind just laps right around the house. We're right on top of a hill, rural and exposed. Mar we aren't as high as yu so I can only imagine the howling din up your way! So far, touch wood, we have a trellis to fix. Hope all is well elsewhere.0 -
Even in rough weather I often see people dressed inappropriately, e.g. blokes with knee length shorts, or women with leggings that expose bare calves. I suppose they think they look "hard" or "cool" - I think they look daft. As my OH was told years ago when he was in the forces - any fool can be uncomfortable. One life - your life - live it!0

Sorry to hear its so bad for so many, on here too. I was on a beach right on the English Channel this morning admiring the waves - and it was tiring walking in the wind as far south as we are here. I dread to think what its like when it causes that amount of damage.
Hope everyone's safe.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

Newcastle has it's own dress code but folk tend to grow out of that. Personally it was 1999 for me
Scientists actually tested theories about why Newcastle women go out without coats on with some suggestion that it's down to more saturated fat being consumed.
What I can say is that having spent the last 2 years on the South coast I am positively struggling being in the North at the moment! :rotfl:0 -
Have just been reading the local papers, and it's worse than I thought around my area.
Corbridge has been evacuated, I have tried texting a friend who lives there to see if she needs to stay here but no answer as yet. There is a horse stuck in a field...up to it's neck in water, the rescuers tried to get to it but it's too dangerous.....:(.. ....sounds like that may end badly. the picture is horrible poor thing.
People in a mosque in Newcastle are refusing to come out and are still praying in there even though the roof is blowing off??..
I'm at the coast, which hasn't been hit as badly as yet. The wind is insane though. Thank god my 80yr old mother drove back home at lunchtime . A poor little old man got blown off the pavement into the side of a bus and has died..:(.
Stay safe people. I was going to go out and check the gate is still shoved up to where it should be, don't think i'll bother in case it blows into my head whilst checking.....a gate isn't important.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
Whew! That is bad calico. I guess the staying put inside the mosque is that it feels safer to stay put inside whatever-building-they-are-in rather than venture out and wonder if roof tiles (theirs or otherwise) might blow into them?
Cynical thought for the day being - does anyone still want to argue that we haven't got Climate Change going on?:(
It's only really possible to tell from personal experience, I guess, if still living in the same part of the country you've been in for many years...but that's what it feels like to me imo.
EDIT; That's something I hadn't noticed before. Just checked out the bbc weather forecast for here and I'd not noticed that there are wind warnings on there - yellow, amber or red (ie going up in seriousness). The wind isn't literally howling at the moment (which is something I didn't believe happened until I moved here) and I guess I'll agree that...yep...the wind warning for here is on yellow at the moment.0
