I like it all in one place, personally.
If there's an aspect of the thread individual readers don't like to read about, any of us can just choose to skim-read or just jump. Heck, if there's any posters whose stuff you just aren't interested in, put them on Ignore and don't view their posts. Simples.
I love conkers, but only when they are that lovely bright shiny new colour. They can be kept in the home as spider deterrants, apparently; I think you hurl them at really big spiders with a slingshot, or summat.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

There will be those of us who will read along on both but it might make sense to do it?
I would prefer a single thread, this one goes through spells of being dominated by an aspect of a subject for a day or three and spells of complete randomness.
If people aren't happy with this then perhaps it is time for multiple threads, but whether that will improve or reduce participation is anybodies guess. I could argue that traditional recipes and remedies belong in the various OS cooking threads, it may be that storage issues could use a resurrection of the larder thread (or belong in the hoarders thread) personally I enjoy the ebb and flow of this thread.
I certainly agree that it needs a part two and will admit to being surprised that that TPTB haven't suggested it in the past since over long threads used to cause database issues - perhaps this has been resolved.Afternoon all, just a fly-by between potting lots of beetroots (thanks to MrsLW's trusty recipe!) and visiting a pal for a knit and natter.
What this means is that things are getting tighter and tigher and tighter, in terms of what services can be provided for the public. It also means that many, if not most, people are operating under misapprehensions of how much support the State (local or national) can or will be able to give them if/ when they need it. You don't want to be betting on a rescue when the rescue boat has been holed and is sitting underwater.
You have to understand that if you lose your job and apply for benefits, you will be lucky to get anything out of DWP within 8 weeks. And housing benefit calculations are running months (6+ months is common) behind real world changes to your circumstances, and you could lose your privately-rented home to arrears before they kick in. Tax creddits will be going up the swannee for a lot of people come April 2016.
These are just small examples (am in a rush to head out the door) but understand absolutely that you need as a minimum, 3-6 months' worth of expenses accessible at all times. Or you'll be at risk of hocking your goods and chattels to pay the bills.

And that is very much the crux of the matter - no matter what the cause of the brown stuff flying, the more of that 6 months you have covered the more chance you have of reducing the impact of problems and making a recovery.
In recent years I've twice been in the situation where 6 months supplies and monies wouldn't have been quite enough and will admit that I haven't got them built back up to that level yet (but will continue to build them as a priority) life throws curveballs on a regular basis, having some preparations buys you thinking space and that can make the difference between surving, thriving or going under.0 -
Hello Gang... I've been reading bits & pieces when I can, but finding time for anything more is a different kettle of purified waterway
I admit that the financial & political chatter is often on a par--for me!--with reading a legal document, in a mirror, without my spex, in a darkened room, after several large snifters of the falling down juice  I got excited when $andi T0ksvig was on ?time the other night as I thought someone would say things in a way I could understand, but it doesn't take long for any of them (including a brand of church) to spout westminsteze
Many politicians talk of engaging the public but do little to change their approach, expecting us to all have studied accountancy & law in our tea break!
Prepping-wise, I've accumulated enough of a store to put a decent meal on the table despite me muvva's protestations about "all this ruddy food!", should circumstance prevent us leaving the house. And it only takes one dodgy weather forecast for Mum to declare that "we need to get some bread & bits in, if that's what's coming" so I'm slowly converting her round to our way of thinking, albeit one price offer on a box of teabags at a time :rotfl:Full time Carer for Mum; harassed mother of three;loving & loved by two 4-legged babies.

What I want to know is.....how do you pickle your conkers? One life - your life - live it!0

I really like the variety of this thread so my vote would be for keeping it all together. And if we split it then I am sure we wouldn't be allowed to have both threads on Old Style and moving it to a different part of the forum would change its character completely. Us Oldstylers look at things a particular way and I like what we bring to these discussions as OldstylersIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

Please miss, I once exploded a whole trayful of conkers when DD2 who was 7 at the time was totally convinced her friend had put them in the oven on high and made them rock hard......apparently not!!!!! The smell was unbelieveable and exploded conker takes an awful lot of scrubbing out of the oven, oh boy is it sticky stuff!!!0

I love this thread and think it's fine altogether in one place. As GreyQueen says if you aren't interested in a post then skim over it.
Did anybody else see a news item saying the RAF had permission to fire on Russian jets? I saw it somewhere but cannot find it now. I hope I imagined it but don't think so..0
