I can't imagine how my DS would cope without his smartphone. He uses it for just about everything!
I have a cheap flip phone for calls and texts, and a Hudl for the rest of the stuff.
A smart phone screen would be too small for my eyesight, nowadays.
Maybe if I'd had a girlfriend, for more of my life.0 -
Yeah, that same set of bills in my life come in at just under £500 a month, too. So I can absteme with the best of them, but £500 isn't going to go very far.
I am assuming that once the bank holidays start that the only thing that will work will be cash and the only thing that needs to be bought regularly is food. Nearly everything else is already covered automatically by direct debits and standing orders. If these were to stop then the country will be facing riots. The money will be transferred within the banking system and not accessible by their recipients either.
So my £500 cash and rising in, really only needs to cover food purchases so on that basis I can go for months with that little sum. With all my other bills being very low I could cope if unemployed with a few more changes and having to live on the sum for my age. It might not be easy but with my normal expenses very low I could cope on unemployment benefits a lot longer than others here. I have not counted rents as there would still be additional support there, but I wonder how many really could cope if made redundant tomorrow? It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -
You live with what you've got because you have no choice. Cope? It is what it is.0

Well you could. At one point one in eight women in prison were for non payment of the TV license.
No, I'm sorry, but you are wrong.
The maximum penalty for LF evasion, is a £1,000 fine, although I've never heard of anyone being fined the maximum.
What you can be imprisoned for, is non-payment of a court fine.0 -

It's awful, isn't it, that we have this sort of conversation every month?
Is it still the law that you are able to request your pay in actual pound notes in a pay packet?
Sorry, we lost that right many many years ago - being paid in cash that is, pound notes wouldn't be much use (apologies if you are in Scotland, think they still have a pound note). They kept it very very quiet. My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.NST SEP No 1 No Debt No mortgage0 -

Not since 1996, when the Employment Rights Act came into force, effectively removing that principle from English Law (I don't know if this differs under Scottish law. The Wages Act 1986, although it repealed the various Trucks Acts did maintain the principle that you could request your wages in the coin of the realm.0
