Sorry, we lost that right many many years ago - being paid in cash that is, pound notes wouldn't be much use (apologies if you are in Scotland, think they still have a pound note). They kept it very very quiet.

I live in Scotland and its years since I have seen a pound note,so I don't think we have them anymore.:)

No, I'm sorry, but you are wrong.

The maximum penalty for LF evasion, is a £1,000 fine, although I've never heard of anyone being fined the maximum.

What you can be imprisoned for, is non-payment of a court fine.
Yes they were fined and unable to pay that either, and so a TV license resulted in 1 in 8 women in prison over a TV license. Sometimes the sums were as low as a few pounds.
It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.

    Good luck, hope it works.

    It certainly helped :)

Minor panic here atm, we found out last night that a family event we'd been invited to on "10.11.15" (and booked hotel rooms accordingly) is actually on 11.10.15......OH will see if he can change the booking. I'd had the cat "pencilled in" at the cattery too but hoping it's far enough in advance to cancel that, and see if they can take him this weekend instead! DS was meant to be coming with us, but can't take the time off at such short notice :(

    Flaming American dates, eh? :)

I am always having to check the dates of things twice on my computer. Why do they have to be different to everyone else?
  • Morning all

Had a really bad dream/ nightmare the other night, and it felt real, I dreamt that Russia had started bombing us!!!! And I was soooo scared I couldn't think properly, should I stay in house, or go to a more isolated area, but everyone else was fleeing ' to the hills' but if I fled, I couldn't look after the animals, and would just have to leave them out to defend for themselves..as there wouldn't be anyone to feed them!!!

    I work up then..

Do you think it's really quiet on the mainstream news about Russia and their bombing campaign??

Also on the news, they said that the world economy is slowing down to 2009 figures, so they lowered the estimated world economy growth to 3 . ( something %)

At this stage of the slowdown what will be the next stage to watch/ look out for?? A world crash?? Like you have been mentioning?? Is this the start of the spirel downwards that can't stop??

Lol I am such a happy bunny this morning

lol CTC - I woke up from a dream where I was sat on a Triumph and had to go somewhere, but it had a kick start, and I didn't have the strength or the knees to start it. Then the handlebars fell off! lol Great preppers us eh!

I've moved on to the stage where no money is needed for rent or mortgage - and £500 wouldn't begin to "cut it" for a month worth of expenditure.
Bob was mentioning the basics as being rent, CT, water, leccy and gas - I don't have rent or mortgage any more, so for the remaining stuff, my total would be £150 :o a long, long way from £500!

Well if you exclude rent and rates, my electricity bill is around £34 a month, no gas, my water £50 because it is unmetered, it would be around £10 a month on a meter. Phone line is £5 a month, Mobile £7 a month, broadband £15 a month and food maximum around £80 a month
    For me,
    26 landline and broadband
    5 mobile
    80 food

Other bills, as mstm was mentioning, annualised - yes (tho no tv licence, and no free travel for me yet either), oh, plus I still have a euro mortgage :( an average long term of £250 a month.
But essential bills in a crisis, so that I can keep the lights on, so to speak - £150 pm
2023: the year I get to buy a car
  • Mardatha.. Now you dream sound like a Benny hill type sketch lol

Even though it was flipping scary dreaming it lol, I think it made me realise I need a plan for my animals too, apart from making sure I have an ample supply of food ( can't buy/ store too much as mite is a big problem in stored animal feeds)
I need to seriously think what we would do in a very serious SHTF situation.. In reality the best thing would be to cull some of rhem, but the best way is with a shotgun, but we haven't got one, or have a license, but I think the guy up the lane has..
Obviously at this stage it would be so bad, that following any legal guidelines/ laws would be well and truely out the window, including health and safety lol
This scenario would be when there is total mayhem, chaios etc

Just taken quick look at my bank file - the bills come to around £280 per month (including a regular £10 to a credit union I belong to just in case) and NHS bills are about £90 pa for the dentist, plus any "bits and bobs" and new glasses I ever need.
Would be nice if it was less - but I don't think that's bad and taking absolutely everything into account I should think £320 per month would cover it.

Then there's food/social life (expenditure for a very minimal level of, say, £15 a week and occasional theatre/film are extra)/haircuts/cosmetics/cleaning materials.

So - pretty minimal and basic.

This morning has seen me making some laundry gloop again (in lieu of detergent) and making my own toothpaste (the "healthy" ones are rather expensive - so out with cheapie coconut oil, bicarb of soda, peppermint oil and a touch of stevia). Breakfast included (as usual) homemade bread with homemade bread spread on it. Lunch focusing today round carrot and lentil soup/homemade bread/homegrown apples.

    Pretty cheap lifestyle I think..:)
