  • I couldn't be dealing with a smart phone, ye gods I have enough trouble making the one I do have now (second hand from Mr Noah straight off the Ark!) do what I want it to, I just develop 10 thumbs on my hands instead of fingers when I'm anywhere near modern technology, it would be a disaster waiting to happen, no way Jose!!!

Well they were right for some people, with the news that the world would come to an end...........

Facebook crashed last night...lol...leaving thousands and thousands, poss millions of people. In a zombie like state, not knowing what to do with their time, or their fingers and thumbs come to that lol...

I am trying to explain to our youngest about talking all his money out of the bank when he gets his wages . and just use cash, the main reason so he can manage his money better, plus if the bank systems go down and he can't use his card, he has cash. And yes also for the reason big brother can't see what is buying..

Ask yourself this; would you be happy to provide, 24/7/365, the State with a minute-by-minute diary of where you were, what you did and what you bought? And, by cross-referencing others' records, who you did it with? And by the State, I mean anyone will either official access or unofficial access (i.e. hackers)? Because that's the level of disclosure you're giving away by using electronic means of payment for every damned thing.
Actually many do this already via Facebook. More so if they have the Facebook app installed on their smartphone. Since Facebook hand this info over to the government readily is one reason I do not have it on my phone. Not that I have anything to hide, it is just too creepy for them to have such access.

Both iPhone and android smart phones compile time stamped location logs and have been doing so for years. It's here and has been for quite some time.

I know google knows where I live. I think this is big big business behind closed doors. I don't think we can even begin to know the full extent of it all.

We'd all better behave then hadn't we?..........NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN!!!

Can the modern phones still be located if they're turned off? I'm so not techy I don't even know if that question is as stupid as I think it might be!

You can turn the location log off and delete the history but I don't believe for one second that it's all deleted. I expect it's probably still somewhere and only deleted off my device/overall google account. Even with 'off' selected I am not naïve enough to believe that it's not logging me.

But then maybe it's all about technology and super apps that bring you relevant information that you didn't even knew you needed or wanted... maybe ;)

"And if anyone accuses you of committing fraud, and you are in receipt of public funds, you will have to be investigated - no exceptions.

You might say well, that's fine, I'm honest, what have I got to fear? I know honest people who've been given the 3rd degree by the Police in incredibly aggressive multi-hour questioning sessions in the police station because of connections as distant as having drunk in the same very large and busy chain pub as a murder victim. Or having had a long-gone ex commit an armed robbery with an accomplice who somewhat resembled them. Or having driven a white van within a few miles of a robbery involving a white van.

If you think guilt-by-association through proximity, or even suspected proximity, it bad enough, imagine the fun which could be had by cross-checking banking records with card or phone transaction records. Just say there was proof that you and a person of interest to the State had been in the same place at the same time?

All those people mentioned above have been left incredibly shaken and declare they will never trust the Police again. They also feel the constant need to record where they were and who they were with, in case they have to alibi themselves in future."

GQ, if only this were true .... my partner set up a company with a friend/neighbour to market and manufacture a machine he has invented. The 'friend' turned out to be a complete crook, forged my partner's signature on a legal document, causing mayhem a year down the line, as he answered many of the questions on the form completely incorrectly. We reported it to the police (and the other two directors of the company) as soon as it came to light. The company was funded by a private investor group, matched by a company allocating public money from the EU. A year on, the police are only now recording it as a crime, and I have had to put in endless appeals and complaints to get this far. My partner left the company as soon as it became clear that the other two directors were going to completely ignore the forgery/fraud. It has cost us tens of thousands of pounds in legal bills to extricate ourselves from this mess - and it's still not certain the police will help us at all, as apparently it will be complicated to investigate .... aaarrrghgh!
  • I'm so glad mine is a 'cave phone' and is made of stone with a little imp inside that shouts 'Bingely Bong' when it rings!!!!! I've read altogether too much Terry Pratchett!!!
  • Well, I'm probably giving "them" a few headaches, always assuming they'd be remotely interested in the doings of a middle-aged battle-axe, as I usually forget to charge the dratted thing anyway!

You know any type of mobile pinpoints your location, don't you Mrs L?

Anyone watching the Corrie story about David & Kylie covering up Callum's death in their house? I bet Callum's phone is how they get caught in the end.
