Until just a few years ago, I thought ironing was something replace by the bessemer process and steel production.
    :T Love it!

I have an iron (same one since 1987) and use it occasionally. Obvs, very occasionally, given its longevity. I have an office job so am required to come within a country mile of smartness, so iron a few tops. No more than 10 mins a week, some weeks nil.

Ironing seems like a conspiracy to waste the time, energy and high spirits. Ye gods, people, what a waste of a life.:rotfl:

I have a little tip that makes ironing easier, and presumably cheaper because it does not require the iron to boil water inside it to make steam:

I don't dry my shirts, pyjamas, and teatowels on the line. I put them in a plastic bag, to keep them damp until the following morning. Then I iron them at 7am to use cheap electricity. Then put on hangers by a window.

Stuff seems quite easy to iron when damp. I only spend about half an hour a week on this.

Humans are three dimensional accumulations of water, fats and other stuff*, so what's the point of trying to wrap highly crafted flat objects around them?

MrD is getting that piece of information when he gets back :D

Sometimes I think you lot are laughing at me - carry on I can take it :rotfl::rotfl:

MrD & son require shirts every day for work and school. I spend approximately 3 years a week ironing ;)

My love (that is MrD!) is currently running around Scottish terrain clad in lycra and gaiters. A fetching sight. He is one of the 5,000 invasion of orienteers in the Highlands this week. I'm not fit enough to be a camp follower this year :(.
If any of you live up there, give him a wave as he runs past :)

(He's the one whose kit is remarkably well-laundered and ironed :rotfl:)
Not dim ;) .....just living in soft focus :p

I don't iron very much, as I'm very left-handed with ironing, and i have problems with my left arm and shoulder.

My summer trousers are all linen though, and I have a linen shirt which I love, so I have to do it sometimes.

OH and DS do their own. DS usually wears jeans and polo shirts, so he doesn't need to do much ironing anyway.

It's so long since I've done any ironing, I was surprised to find it the other day when I was tidying up the shoes at the bottom of the wardrobe :D

And I have news for you, peeps ... young professionals in London will pay to have their shirts ironed - not cleaned and ironed, mind you, just ironed - they'll pay £1 per shirt, and think it good value

....and that's at this time of a morning:(

You wouldn't like to send a bit of that weather over to West Wales would you? - pur-lease. Just checked my house thermostat - and its 20.5C inside (which will do), but obviously fair bit cooler outside.

I've got used to thinking "What?!!!" half the time when peeps here say "Nice day isn't it?". Trying to be grateful for the other 50% of the time - when I can actually agree with them...

"Nice Day" on Planet Money is blue skies/calm/25C or higher/dry.
