Several times in the last four years a new law has been announced in the morning on the tv or news sites, that came into effect at midnight the previous night..... So they were passed in a midnight vote that only involved the ones in the know who just happened to be there at midnight to vote it in!

Having a Rakomelo to celebrate the results of the vote....Corfu so far are at seventy percent voted NO.....over the whole country its over sixty percent. The EU are in a turmoil, half say we now have to leave the euro and the other half want to re negotiate. Meanwhile, the opposition leader has been asked to resign by his own party, who apparently voted NO to get him to leave. The man who runs the National bank of Greece has been caught moving one million euros to Canada for a friend of his yesterday, despite the cash restrictions. The Deutche bank have lost fifty trillion dollars and the CEO s have resigned.......the next few months are going to be interesting. But the NO vote shows we are all behind this government and it is a victory for common sense and democracy. Now watch the others follow our lead. Austrians have asked for a referendum....
  • Hiya CRAIGY nice to have you back! All is well thank you, DD2 has just accepted an offer on her flat close to asking price, that Zebra is walking and a real little boy and DD1 is on the verge of applying for a senior management position. We also have a super harvest this year, fruit in particular is prolific and I'm making jams and freezing fruit compote packs for the freezer. Your potatoes on the soil heap are likely rogue small ones that were left in from last years harvest. You will probably get some small spuds from them but I wouldn't count on a large harvest. Still a spud is a spud and if they've grown themselves it's a bonus spud. Wait for the haulms to die back and have a dig in the heap, you might get a couple of meals worth? let us know how good they are or not!

1T the news here has said the exit polls for the referendum are showing the No vote as being slightly ahead of the YES vote. I guess none of us will know until the official count has been announced though.

The no vote has officially won the referendum as more than fifty percent of the votes have been counted. Corfu had the largest No vote in the whole of Greece. The euro is falling on world markets, which is good for our tourism...

The leader of the opposition party has been forced to resign, which means that he is no longer immune to prosecution for financial crimes. The French have requested an extraordinary meeting of the eurogroup next week so they can help Greece. The Germans have said that Greece has burnt her bridges and they will not negotiate with us.......
  • So we wait then do we? - ie to see if its going to be them all starting to go down like a pack of dominoes?

I'm surprised at Austria now saying they want a referendum - that's out of left field isn't it? Mind you - its not that we tend to follow news happening in other countries that much in this country in some ways....

So there must be a Greek phrase for "In the lap of the gods" - as I guess that's what this is now....
  • Democracy rules OK? watching the amazing footage on the news of people in Athens in the square in front of the Parliament building, thousands there now and thousands more arriving, jubilation and celebrations. It reminds me of the footage from Berlin when the wall came down!
