I hadn't come across that one, but have worked with others of that ilk. One of the worrying things about that one is that its designed for churches.

yep, somehow that crosses the 'creepy' line.

I'm also highly suspicious of 'talking' (or should that be 'listening') Barbie and similar products.

Like you, I find a healthy level of paranoia helps in my job...

  • Speaking of that reminds me - on a lesser-known website recently the commentator was stating that there is a major policy document thing (cant recall the name of it - maybe "Encyclical"???) that the Pope releases at regular intervals about current policies.

I didn't know that (not being a catholic) - but assume that is definitely so.

He then went on to say that the person who is putting a lot of the research into the latest one is a very strong advocate of reducing the Earth's population to manageable levels (ie from 7 billion down to 1 billion) and commentator duly stated he believed this latest policy document would contain proposals on that.

It will have come out a few days ago - does anyone know the basic gist of what it actually did say in the event?

Hmmm....and we all know that kids are so open they will tell anyone their (parents') business. So my parents tell me - ie from when I was a kid:rotfl:and if I knew it, then the neighbourhood knew it too:rotfl:

Thanks so much for that, nuatha. Encyclicals tend to be quite long, I think, but I've bookmarked that and will read it bit by bit. I'm Catholic and we will be able to buy paper copies at church, but of course this is free!

One thing the RC church does advocate is what someone decided to call "LiveSimple", i.e. trying to leave as small a footprint on the planet as possible, recycling and re-using whenever possible, and I think most posters would agree with that.

That Churchix thing sounds as if it's aimed at cults - definitely creepy.

For those who haven't considered it, can I suggest looking for TVP mince (textured vegetable protein eg soya mince). Available in health food shops, I've used it and it's a shelf-stable, long-keeping product. Cooked as mince, it takes up the flavours of the other ingredients, doesn't taste peculiar and gives a satisfying sense of having eaten well.

T*sco Wholefood Soya Mince 375G for £1.90 I think this is a lot cheaper than health food shops. I usually add a vegetable stock cube or 2 in the water when rehydrating it. I'm a vegetarian but my meat eating family also like this.
    GC Feb 25 - £225.54/£250 Mar £218.63/£240
  • TVP is a whole lot better these days than it was back in the 70s, the flavour is much improved now. There is a product by Batchelors called 'BEANFEAST' which is still available (I've seen it in A*da) and comes in spag bol, chilli and savoury mince flavours if anyone wants to try it before investing in a big bag. The joy of TVP is that it swells considerably on rehydration so your bag of dried becomes many times more its original weight and can be used either in place entirely of minced beef or half and half which makes both products go much further.

I would also add that beanfeast is very high in fibre which can be a shock to the system if you are not used to it.

I saw this and thought I would link to it to give some insight into austerity.

As you can see the Troika were grossly over optimistic about the Greek recovery. Also you need to be aware that the 2014 figure for actual GDP is an anomaly because prices fell faster than the economy so it appears that the Greek economy hit the bottom, though we shall see later this year.

I know a number of you guys have medical conditions far worse than mine, so maybe you can give me some advice.

You may know that I have to watch my diet like a hawk now, so that I don't have any fat. (My gallbladder starts twinging if I do.) I haven't dated anyone since before I was ill. I only got rid of my zits a few years before that, so am very behind in the dating game.

However, it's not very sexy to have to explain to someone why you can't eat in cafes or even restaurants in view of your medical problem.

Should I keep quiet about the problem before meeting the person, and only let on after a few dates, or should I be upfront from the start?

    What do others do?
