:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:I think eating marmite out of a jar with a teaspoon for the previous fortnight before my appointment should have given a clue as to what was really wrong with me:o

I did not see the posts but cannot imagine you saying anything unkind to anyone.

I can agree that springing to the defence of someone being picked on
is a natural and I would think admirable one.

If I had been around then I would probably really have put my foot in it albeit from good intentions. Heavens knows what my response would have been as mentally I have been doing a bit of muttering to myself about passive aggressive behaviour etc.

Please don't go as we would all miss your good sense, advice and compassion.

    Hugs.

    Perhaps Docky will post?
  • Thanks all, oh yes I WIW Iffen eye kud ony gettid Mumi offa ver poota few fyve minnitz!!

To put the record straight and hopefully be able to move forward I will answer the original question posted by KEZ

Yes, I can and do practise all the skills I would need in a survival situation from shelter building to obtaining clean drinking water. I was involved for many years with the Girl Guides, DD1 is a warranted guider and also teaches history, runs the Duke of Edinburghs Awards scheme for the school and is an experienced mountain, wilderness and expedition leader and quite often tows me not unwilling into the wilds or up a mountain to practise, so over the years we've had a go at doing things from all periods of history the way they would have been done in their time, much to the amusement of the neighbours usually!

I'm sorry for reacting to the crossbow, you didn't actually say in your original post that it was a wooden one and I know your small ones are not very old.

I can't speak for FUDDLE but I know she's worked very hard to make her new life here in the south is very keen to learn new skills and I am very happy to teach her all I know if she wants me to, she is a very good and dear friend and she and her lovely little family are very important to me and their wellbeing is as much of a concern to me as is that of my other two girls. She is the middle one of the three and is informally adopted into the family so I am defensive of her even though I know she's a big girl and can look after herself. I am sorry for having diverted the thread away from its intended purpose which is prepping so hope this post puts the whole sorry episode to sleep and we can carry on from here, Lyn xxx.
  • I don't post very often but do read along most days and I can only echo what has been said by others Mrs. LW. I always look forward to your posts, they contain so much wit and wisdom. Please continue.

I'm creating space to start up other strands of income, and to make myself more mobile, cos I really, really don't trust the way things are going.

I think that is sensible though remember you should declare any income otherwise you could end up in trouble with the tax man. Though you will also be allowed to claim some allowable expenses as well. You could consider calling the tax office and just ask what you need to do. If you are honest and up front the tax office are pretty reasonable. If all you might get from it is a small sum every year then they might simply say not to worry unless it is above a certain amount.

You could for example set up a food buying co-operative where by you bulk buy for a group of people, including yourself, and effectively make no profit, but your own food bill plummets. Technically you are not making a profit but could still be better off because your own food bill falls. The tax man might want to see that you are not making a profit but as I said most of them are pretty reasonable.
It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.

Thanks Frugasod - I've been self employed for 25 years now, and I do my own tax declaration nowadays, including an investment property in France.

I like the idea of a food co-op, I used to belong to one in the city I moved away from a few years ago.

I read your posts on several threads, I can't remember seeing anything inappropriate in your posts. I do remember wise words, humour and compassion.
I will miss your posts and think this (and other) thread(s) will be far poorer without your regular input
:T Couldn't have put it better myself.

Lyn, I wasn't around for whatever it was, but I can promise you this; keep posting on old style or I will get my pal the private detective to track you down. She's good. Then I shall come and visit you and tie you to your pooter to make you post. So there.:p

Or I could join boultdj in singing at you. You really don't want to hear me singing, trust me.:rotfl:

Doveling, good to hear an update on your brother, and more good wishes for his continuing recovery.

Been out playing wiv the bows and arrows tonight, big fun as always. At one point we were laughing so hard we could barely shoot straight. Mind you, our side won at Agincourt, 600 years ago this year, and they were apparently as pished as farts. Well, you'd hardly do it sober, would you?

Random fact; we are 2 days away from the full moon and a bloke outside was howling at it. He may have been a student. It's that sort of an evening.
