Thanks to this thread, my very meagre 'shtf' stocks have got the household through a lurgy ridden week without having to leave the house. Thank you all.

Must get the stocks replenished when feeling a bit better before the winter weather properly kicks in.

January always seems to last far too long, but February is brilliant as it just whizzes by :)I think its because a lot of folk get paid before Christmas so its always been a bit of a lean month.I enjoy the prospect of a new year though and as a previous poster said new lists and books to scribble in to make them help:)

I have a pre-op. thing to go to on the 15th so I am hoping I will have my op. before the end of the month so tucked up in bed for a few days in the warm of the hospital won't seem so bad if the weather turns nasty IYSWIM :)
I already have bulbs pushing their way up in the garden so fingers crossed we'll soon have spring here and the daffodils will be out.Always makes me feel more cheerful when they start appearing.
Roll on the summer and warm lazy days

One thing worth stocking up on in your prepping kit - tooth repair kits!

I had a dead tooth break just before NY (not uncommon with root filled teeth as they become fragile), and the dentist put in a temporary filling. Which fell out yesterday. So as the dentist is closed, and I'm not booked for the crown for another 10 days, I bought a tooth repair kit and finally worked out how to get it to stick (not so easy on the side of the tooth as the top). o need in an emergency. I'm off out to get a couple more (possibly different brands to test), but they appear to be zinc oxide powder and oil of cloves. I might have a chat to the dentist, as if that's all they are, buying the two separately might be a better bet, especially for families!

Maybe you could try a small piece of dental wax to fill the gap? its cheap & moulds and stays in place surprisingly well - my daughter was given pack of dental wax to cover the sharp & uncomfortable bits her dental braces with. I have used it successfully to cover the gaps left by lost fillings and to stabilise loose crowns for a few days until I could get to the dentist.

Thanks. That's a good idea too. I will keep an eye out and get hold of some. For the moment, the tooth repair stuff seems to be working. But I think something for dental emergencies is a good idea to have to hand...

Hi we have a very small flat with me DH & 2 kiddies 5&15m - I have a box that I want to use as an emergency box for a 24hour ICE box - space is limited we have food stores etc - does anyone have any ideas what I can put in? So far I have 2 torches (one wind up) and some candles/lighter & matches - our first aid box is separate with all our meds ect but a bit stumped. Can think of big things but I don't have the space - any help will be gratefully received xx

Evening all, happy new year to you! Been MIA for ages, couldn't find the thread and had a panicky moment before it turned up. :D Won't be able to catch up, so new year new start for me.

Hope there's been no horridness for any of you over the last few weeks, but big hugs if there was - life's not perfect!

We went away for a short spell, spent over budget, so need to reign it all in now, back to being a regular here, avidly reading everyone's wise words. Littlies go back to school, DH to work tomorrow, me back to mum-caring and holiday washing - nice to be back in our routines, including OS ways, although I'm sure January-itis will get us along the way.

    A xo

Happy New Year everyone - a bit late, but never mind!
Our local garden centre has a Christmas type board up saying how many sleeps 'til Summer! Just what we need to lift our spirits on these gloomy days :)

Other suggestions for you, Tink-04, could be:

    Batteries

    Solar charger

    Water purification tablets

Spare money in case the hole in the wall stops working
