Have discovered during my animal experimentation that Iodine is great stuff - making absesses clear up super fast. Will be looking into whether its worthwhile purchasing some for use with humans if necessary as part of first aid supplies
Glad bunny is getting better. Iodine in a proprietary form, Betadine, is all they use in Australia for everything cut wise. You very rarely see antiseptic cream of another form at all. If you get stitches or a wound, the doc always says pop betadine on it. Downside is, it stains *everything* it touches! Comes in an ointment, a liquid or a spray. The thing about it is, whereas an antiseptic cream keeps a wound moist, this sort of helps it dry instead, which I find heals faster. It's the only ointment we keep in the house first aid wise, it covers most everything. Not sure if it's available in England or not.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
It will get there eventually.....flipping irritating as well as sore.....:o.
Hope bunny is better soon, my Asbo-cat had a mahoosive abscess by her bum a couple of years ago poor thing..not easy to deal with with animals....explained why she was trying to kill me when I went to stoke her though. Very painful for them.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
A few years ago when it was minus "silly" we all went into hibernation mode (snowed in Yeh!) and it was a bit like the scene from the day after tomorrow! All sitting around the fire , covered in blankets , cuddled up in one room although we didnt have any tax books to burn!
Love that movie. In fact, I may have to watch it again soon ...I'm pretty sure that my little person in a fur coat would trash cork......:D.
Op went better than thought and they haven't had to go in as deep this time.....:T. :T. So the whole healing process shouldn't take as long as last time. I'll still be off work a while due to the type of job I do....and thanks for your wishes.:)
I'm glad it went well for you and I hope your recovery is swift.Query about Iodine - what does it do and why? My poor bunny has a face full of pus - huge absess leaking through her eye, nose, mouth and a newly opened hole on the side of her face. So gross - but a little fascinating. I always did like sorting out spots and absesses. Vet cleaned it out today, and she has antibiotics. Vet also gave me an iodine solution to flush out holes - except for the eye. He thinks that it looks a lot grosser then it is, and should clear up soon.
Poor bunny! I was bitten by a cat at the vet's a few years ago and they cleaned the wound with iodine for me. Ouch! Don't know what its effects are though.
I think the weather is coming here. I expected to wake up to snow but instead it's wet and windy and snow is forecast for tonight. So today I'll be getting prepared for that. I don't like to go out in the snow if I can avoid it so shall retire to my cave until it melts! Not Buying it 2015!NSDs w/b 29Dec14 1/70 -
Well, the wind speed has fallen a bit, but it's still hammering down with rain.0

Betadine, in the liquid form of Iodine, is used here in Greece for any kind of cut or graze. Everyone keeps a bottle handy and they use it liberally! The doctor at the hospital told me he thought the use of it for treating wounds and cleaning wounds and the liberal use of chlorine bleach kept the incidence of MRSA here down to very low levels.
He could be right as its either iodine or bleach on everything that moves. All the housewives use the bleach to clean the house with. I associate the smell of bleach, suntan oil and olive wood smoke with Greece.
I once picked up a tiny wild kitten to see if it was okay, it obviously was as it got me right in the eye with its claw! I had to go to the eye surgeon to get it sorted out and he used Betadine drops so he could see the tear easier.....
Now for a question for you all. We are going away for the holidays and are driving through the mountains to get to where we are staying. It will be very cold, below zero, but hopefully sunny. What would you advise us to take with us? It is a main motorway that winds through the mountains. We have already decided on our thermals and winter wear, and some snow chains are compulsory to have in the car just in case.
We will be about an hour away from the Greek ski resorts in a town with lots of shops and restaurants. But would you take prep gear just in case?
Thanks in advance....stay safe all of you, your weather looks horrendous and there is another storm following this one closely, it looks like hell of a week for some of you:(0 -
If it were me, I'd take some Emergency Blankets (2 per person), a large flask of hot drink (tea, coffee, etc.), a camping stove, kettle, brewing tackle (tea/coffee, sugar, powdered milk), at least 10L (more is better) of water, and some energy bars.
This is in addition to all the usual car equipment and supplies.
PS. Don't forget your mobile phone(s) (ideally on different networks) and cigarette lighter charger(s).0 -
Thanks Bob, hope your weather has eased up a bit!0

Weather has erupted here, really wild night and morning. I woke during the night to a blizzard and 3" of snow, went back to sleep and by 9am it was all gone and was horizontal rain instead. Then we had sleet and hail and thunder. But the road is fine, that's the main thing. Got cardiology clinic for the RV this afternoon. It can snow for a month after that lol0
