:) Y'know, I think I shall have to ask an elections officer about that, when next I talk to one on other business. I've noticed that they ask your name and address and then tick you off before handing you your ballot papers. I've always thought it insane that they never ask for proof of ID. I mean, anyone who knows my name and address could rock up at the polling station saying they were me and as long as they did it before I arrived, they'd get to use my ballot.

Ah, well that's the excuse for recording the numbers GQ. See here:

The idea is that if you show up after someone else has voted in your name, they can locate the ballot paper, and destroy it.

I would be happier if they did ask for picture ID, but did away with the ballot paper numbers.
  • Hello all, just popping in.
    On the subject of cold flooring think I can claim to be an expert! Our kitchen tiles are freezing and we have flagstones throughout the rest of the ground floor. Two tips;

    1. Wear slippers! LOL
2 If you lay down to watch TV do it on a rug! preferably with a nice warm throw or blanket over you.

Seriously it makes sense to insulate under the floor boards but ensuring the airbricks etc still work allowing air flow. I dont have a single carpet in my house. Upstairs are all old floor boards and where I want a carpet I buy a rug the size I need.
I cant say this is a really warm house as we have to have single glazed windows (listed) but we have insulated where we can and the old place is a bit like a cave (complete with troglodites) in that once the wood burner heats up the stone walls it stays warm in winter but is definately nice and cool in summer.
A friend is currently working on insulated roman blinds for the kitchen. When I ever get time I am going to try to make little quilts to hang up in the smaller windows in the older part; ones I can just stick up with velcro in the evening!
A few years ago when it was minus "silly" we all went into hibernation mode (snowed in Yeh!) and it was a bit like the scene from the day after tomorrow! All sitting around the fire , covered in blankets , cuddled up in one room although we didnt have any tax books to burn!

Anyway keep prepping, so far it hasnt happened but it might! LOL

Yes GQ i live in a flat built in the late 60s..... the heating we have is ok ..radiators in every room(which ive turned off except for lounge and bedroom) its dependable reasonable cost........its just the earlier system for £7 a week you could have your radiators on all the time....but you didn't them on as much ....cos of the ch pipes that kept the flat warm anyway...... to do that now would cost me about 30-40 pound a week .... so i ration myself to 4 hours a day with constant hot water for a tenner a week........just finished late and on 7 am tomorrow.....supper then bed.... take care

I put down laminate in two rooms some years ago. didn't know about insulation way back then and really wish id kept the carpets. I'm very interested in cork tile although i fear the Little People in Fur Coats would like them too!

Hope your op goes ok today, calico cat.

I'm pretty sure that my little person in a fur coat would trash cork......:D.

Op went better than thought and they haven't had to go in as deep this time.....:T. :T. So the whole healing process shouldn't take as long as last time. I'll still be off work a while due to the type of job I do....and thanks for your wishes.:)

Re: the up coming weather....i can't do much tomorrow as will have to wait in for District nurse, but hopefully they will be able to tell me times they will be coming over the next week. Once I know that, i'll find a chauffeur to take me to the shops to get some provisions in just in case it gets bad. I have loads of HM soup in the freezer, so i'll certainly not starve even though not up to much culinary wise at the moment...:D. ( in fact when I came round they said I probably didn't feel like eating yet)........my response was...... Urm, I most certainly do feel like eating...I think i'd have to be in a coma to not want to eat...:D.

So, bad weather preps done wednesday if all goes to plan.
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.

Not trying to push a product or anything but I have just ordered these for my Kitchen and Bathroom. Worth a try. I have horrid double glazed Aluminium in most rooms, might as well be single glazed!

Thanks Wills. That's a brilliant website. I'm going to be ordering some blinds in a few weeks for a flat I'm working on.

Usually I get a firm that comes out to measure, and fit. The last time I had this done, the guy installed the fixings fouling the workings of the blind, and I had to take it down & move them. In view of that, I have decided to fit my own from now on.

One thing that might help keep the heat in is thicker curtains. We changed our flimsy cream bedroom curtains, for beautiful red cord type curtains. Each individual curtain could comfortably cover the window, but having a pair gives double the material coverage. They also only reach the top of the radiator, letting all the heat into the room. Flimsy ones covered the radiator, funnelling lots of heat directly at, and out the window. And the new ones cost £12.99 from a charity shop. :D

Query about Iodine - what does it do and why? My poor bunny has a face full of pus - huge absess leaking through her eye, nose, mouth and a newly opened hole on the side of her face. So gross - but a little fascinating. I always did like sorting out spots and absesses. Vet cleaned it out today, and she has antibiotics. Vet also gave me an iodine solution to flush out holes - except for the eye. He thinks that it looks a lot grosser then it is, and should clear up soon.

So reckon this is a good learning experience, I know a bit about absesses, and I know that iodine is often used with wounds, but I don't really understand what it does. With a bit more info, I hope iodine will be a good addition to my stocks.

    So, Whaddya know? :)

Though they would not be able to eliminate voter fraud. Though voter fraud is a grossly over claimed event.

I think that the election papers are handed to historians in 100 years when you would be dead anyway so who would worry about who you voted for? So I would be happy to keep the current system.
It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.

They keep the polling slips for 100 years? Cripe!

Then I really do have cause to worry. Can you imagine the Nazis having that sort of information to look at?
