  • Slightly off topic b and m had balti frey bentos for a quid. They have a good kick. My dd who liked the last curry ones about a year ago can't decide if they are a bit too spicy or not. Plus the usual chicken and mushroom and mince and onion.

Off tomorrow so will get a few bits in. It is windy here too (north west). Not done garden yet was holding off until half term fingers crossed this was a wise decision eh.

Always lurking and loving the advice x
  • Anyone care to guess how a "major" fire at Didcot B power station is going to impact our power supplies this winter? I'm assuming it's going to put the station offline for a while, at least.

Seeing this on the nrews i just said to DH that we'll be lucky to see the winter out without power cuts. He's beginning to come round to my way of thinking.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Planning to try out the cheapie soap i bought for my preps from tomorrow - used up the last of my nice one tonight. New soap was 15p in tesco's. I'm happy with their cheap toothpaste, will see how the soap goes.

Still trying to organise my preps - still a bit hoardy in the spare room. But getting better - got cupboard under stairs organised. Must start a list!

Hope those who haven't been well are feeling better.

MM....hope things get sorted for her and they find out what's going on for her. Sounds awful.
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.
  • Thanks for the advice on re hydration, have made a note of it. Reminds me of the story of when my mother met my father in her early 20s & they went to live in Canada for a bit with his family. She got very sick with D&V & her new MIL gave her lemonade to drink... my mother thought she was trying to finish her off as they never saw eye to eye!:D It worked though & it's advice that's been passed down.
Need to get out in the garden & have a quick tidy up this morning before tonight's winds. We have a dubious looking fence panel that'll need tying to something as well.

Hi, I've been lurking on this thread for a while now, and finally decided to join in.

I lived briefly in a house with no running water and the amount of bottled we went through was amazing, we used it for flushing the loo though so that used a lot. Also washing my hair, which is just below my shoulders used around a galleon and that was with a 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioner, hate to have used separate and had to use even more water. Then there was the cooking and cleaning up after, plus cleaning ourselves, trued to stick to just using a flannel to wash ourselves with so used less water, but still used a fair amount alongside cleaning our teeth too.

This was in the summer and it was horrible to live that way, I think it would have been so much worse though to have to do it during the winter.
  • Hello KACIE welcome in to the thread, lovely to have you with us, Lyn xxx.
  • At a most basic level, re water I take the view that water doesn't have to be that good for many purposes and therefore collected rainwater will do for many purposes. Its fine for watering the garden, flushing the loos, giving an initial 'wash-off' to dirty dishes, cleaning floors, etc.

Hence, waterbutts and as many as there are downwards pipes on a house and in the biggest feasible size will help out to some extent with any water supply problems.
  • Scuse me butting in....
Was listening to a chappie on Radio 4 this morning talking about the fire at the power station. He was asked what the implications for the general public were. He said we had 3 to 6 spare capacity of 'whatever-they-measure-spare-capacity-in (my words!!) but due to the fire plus two other stations having problems (okay, I was half asleep still!) we had just lost 4 1/2 of whatever-they-measure-spare-capacity-in and it was 'too close for comfort'.....
Off to the shops to stock up on candles methinks....
    Goes back to lurking.....
