But this is essential survival work. I am currently lobbying for emergency rescue dogs to be sent out onto the hills with little doggy back-packs with packets of biccies in.

Scroll down to the paragraph under the picture and read about the critical importance of sitting down for a brew when lost and panicky.
If inclined to panic a little, put the kettle on. If inclined to panic a lot, empty the gin into the mug as well as the tea.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I finally made it out of the loft! Annie however is now going to shoot me as I just found yet another box of kitchen garden etc magazines
My preps are all being duly boxed and labelled neatly, water storers in one box along with purifier tabs, box of paper goods (plates etc), and I must pop over to thank the ladies on the hoarding thread as if it wasn't for them I'd not have the space to do it all
I found 3 boxes of very useful books which I don't know why they were in there?? Plus a whole load of useless tat :rotfl:
I have been gifted the cupboard at the top of the stairs as a store too :j*they're soo gonna regret that!!*
Just having a quick cuppa then got to sort DS3 out then I'll catch up proper XXX0 -

Thank you Vanoonoo, I shall celebrate by going to LID!s & stocking up with some extra for everybody!
I've just taken an executive decision. The area under the stairs, which I was going to turn into a little office so that I had a quiet space to write in, doesn't seem to be needed since I got an Ipad to do the writing on. Now everyone else who used to "need" the main computer, so that I couldn't write on it, even when I had deadlines approaching fast, seems to "need" to use the Ipad instead, so I've got my Mac back! The area under the stairs, in the hallway beside the kitchen, is unexpectedly "free" again. I've decided it would make a very good indoor larder. It's not particularly cool, but it does have a nice even temperature, and it'll be relatively easy to line it with shelving (I even have half an IKEA Gorm set in the garage to start me off) for long-term storage of tins & packets. I do have cool, dark storage outside in the garage; it's not attached to the main house but it's hardly far away!
My kitchen's not small, but I do struggle to store enough food of the sort that we constantly use, as well as enough pots, pans, plates, glasses & mugs for 7 people, as OH cannot abide wall cupboards; there are two small (and expensive) supermarkets in our town but I suspect we're on the very margins of the supply chains & in a tight corner the "superstores" in the conurbation 6+ miles away would get first dibs. So I do like to keep a few weeks worth of non-perishables about the place, as well as storing the stuff we grow, forage & preserve ourselves. Not sure that an understair larder would be exactly a selling point, if we do get around to moving, though; like the chicken run, some potential buyers will love it & others will shudder in horror! But I suspect it could very easily just be used as a cleaning cupboard, so I shall go ahead anyway.Angie - GC Aug25: £106.61/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -

One of OH's fellow inmates was telling me her hubby brought an Ann Summers style negligee that she wouldn't even wear at home, a work suit and blouse complete with heels, the wrong phone charger (his, so they both had mobiles that wouldn't work) and an empty washbag. No underwear, no toiletries, and couldn't understand why she was still in a hospital gown that evening.
Apparently hospital bags aren't as easy as I thought.

And OH was well enough to tell me off for taking a carton character flannel in. Which is real progress0 -

GQ regarding the root cellaring in the states it seems to work on a principle like our ice houses etc used to over here. They are using dug down into the soil so they keep an even cool temperature and are shelved out it seems rather than clamped like over here.I am sure Backwoodshome or similar site had an article will try and find a link..
MrsL lol I thought I'd confused you! Glad to hear the 'scally' is earning its keep already, can't wait to get mine!0
