Actually it wasn't '' lifted '' from anywhere, it was being shared by the creator on my facebook and I copied it...as you cannot see my facebook if you are not listed as my friend ......and neither is anyone else on here. I will add their name next time but I am not lifting them from any websites and I have the permission of all the people concerned to share on here and other forums to help them

Does anyone know how soap manages as shampoo?
In the long run if you do not wash your hair it will sort itself out. There was something about a woman who did not wash her hair for months. It was in a turban as she started the show and every one was aghast at how good her hair was. What normally happens when you wash your hair you can take too much natural oils off the hair and so it reacts by producing more and then you get greasy hair. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -
Liam Dutton goes into a bit more detail on this report
http://blogs.channel4.com/liam-dutton-on-weather/weather-warning-heavy-rain-weekend/6940
Although we have no storms forecast for Greece, it keeps looking very stormy here then it passes over. Everything is full of static which makes a touch screen computer interesting to say the least. My hair is up in a bun as it's the only way I can control it at the moment. Any tips to stop static?
Meanwhile I have spare ribs in the little table top oven and a nice rabbit simmering away in the slow cooker . It will be portioned later for dinner and the rest will go in the freezer when it cools. Great stuff. I picked up lots of discounted food at Lidl today. Despite it being the height of the tourist season here it was all but empty when I went at 11 am. A sad sign of the times in Greece.“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. When in a state of security he does not forget the possibility of ruin.” Confucius (551 BC - 479 BC):A0 -

The problem with doing short quotes is that I don't know where everyone lives...so can't do a short quote for given areas that people need. In future I will just post a link and people can go and read it if they wish from the original posting. Unless its a critical warning by one of my friends then I will give their name. I got to the end
I have read the first 100 pages, and from page 1200 Has taken a couple of weeks!!!
Excellent thread, and has given me a lot to think about.
2tonsils - your posts about the situation in Greece in the earlier part of the thread were very interesting - hope things have settled down a little for you.
A friend of mine works in a local hospital laundry during her uni holidays. She says cheap soap is the best stain remover.

Thank you for your kind comments on my posts about the situation in Greece. When we returned from Thailand it did seem better, but I am waiting till the end of the season to see how my friends say it went for them this year. The political situation is much the same, as is the crisis with money of course. The good thing is that many charities are working together to help the people who need it.
Re soap, I keep stocks of green household olive oil soap which is very cheap to buy here and stores for years if kept dry. It removes stains, can be used to make wash liquid and cleaner and soap flakes. My husband swears by a bar of it as a shower soap and hair shampoo. He says it stops his hair going grey and makes it feel thicker. Who am I to argue with him....the soap is cheap and lasts for ages.
And where is the cheapest place to buy salt??
I use Himalayan pink salt , which has more minerals in it. I use less of it as there is more flavour and it does not seem to have the bitter taste that table salt sometimes has. I keep it in large jars.
Sorry, it somehow mixed up my answers with the quotes, hope you can understand it!“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. When in a state of security he does not forget the possibility of ruin.” Confucius (551 BC - 479 BC):A0 -

Re salt, it seems available in placcy bags at the supermarket of for about 25p but I don't know if you'd want to buy huge quantities. If you wanted salt for use to salt paths in icy weather, there are cheaper places to get it.
Re soap as shampoo, a lot of it depends on whether you are in a hard or soft water area. I live in a very hard-water area and my old country granny always used to use soft water from the rainwater butt for hairwashing, rather than the hard tap water. I was on the Outer Hebrides one time and was washing my hair up there using the normal amount of shampoo and the water was so very soft that I thought I'd never get the suds rinsed out.
If you're in a hardwater area, you can end up with an unpleasant residue on your hair from soap rather than shampoo, but a vinegar rinse is a nice way of removing it (splash of vin in half a basin of water was how I did it).
I've done the no-shampoo thing myself as an experiment in the past. For the first 2-3 weeks it was a bit greasy and icky and I was self-conscious in case it smelled to other people (it smelled a bit to me) and then it settled itself down and went soft, clean-looking, sweet-smelling and shiny. However, I gave up on it because I developed the most horrendous dandruff, which was a new problem, and was a the centre of my own personal blizzard whenever I moved my head!
I can get a litre of pretty decent shampoo with change from £1 and that will last me most of a year, so I wouldn't forgo it on financial grounds.
Have decided not to go to the allotment as is unbearably hot here today, and I'm still feeling knackered despite having had 9 hours' sleep. Have been helping a youngster neighbour with a plumbing emergency and hope they'll be OK now. Am catching up on some real old-styling inc repairing some clothes. Gotta keep the raggledyness at bay.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I remember going for a clean up after a day volunteering in the far north. Loch was the colour of whiskey and warm enough. We used tiny amounts of ecological shampoo and looked like meringues bobbing around "sitting" on the loch bottom with our feet floating in front of us.
Then the midges came out..............If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
I was reading the above and thinking oooh sounds blissful and you went and had to go and mention the m i d g e s, didn't you?
Picture this (a la Golden Girls) GQ and Pal wandering around on Harris in a pretty stiff gale, full waterproofs, all pink-cheeked and healthy, but decided to descend a bit to a sheltered cove to have our packed lunch.
Got under the wind, lovely little beach, rocks, sand, ruined house, the full picturesque bit. Down we plonk and then the bliddy midges arrive. I can still cringe at the feeling of them in my hairline, ears, eyes, nose......eww. Rang to the surf and rinsed my face in the seawater, trying to get them off.
We had to back onto the hill as they couldn't fly in the gale. Lovely scenery but those critters reminded me of that episode of the X Files. I hate them bliddy things.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

GQ - as I lurked I enjoyed your posts too - takes skills to make your area sound as entertaining as you do!
Do you think it has got better or worse while you have lived there.
I admit I have stayed up way to late while reading this thread with various Zombie/ dystopian furture films on the TV. Makes you think far to seriously about daft things in the early hours of the morning
Regarding preps so far, I have a GAG bag for myself and my husband for the car. Carries a torch, change of clothes, sewing kit, first aid kit, snack and bottle water (also a pouch of cat food - we both have a habit of bringing home stray cats and dogs).
I tend to have a well stacked food cupboard and freezer anyway. I have added enough bottled water and a few other bits to last us a week, being stuck at home for what every reason.
Planning for emergency situations such as
- tummy bug / sickness (so unable to leave house for a few days), - water pipe problems,
- emergency dashes to hospital (one each in the past, with my back (couldn't move anything without mind altering painkillers) and his tummy ulcer (vomiting blood)),
-large price rises,
- and sudden life changes such as big sickness, loss / change of job
- pregnancy (with resulting rise expenses, pay drop with maturnity leave and reduction in hours afterwards) We will be delighted if this one happens
Would love a year's supply of groceries, and cash, but that's a very long way to go!:j got married 3rd May 2013 :beer:0
