What do you do when two volunteer peace corps workers are gravely ill with Ebola in Africa? You transfer them thousands of miles to a densely populated area of America......this is not a hoax or conspiracy theory...but is taking place right now....... look at this..... are they people who decided this brain dead???? http://www.cbs46.com/story/26166691/emory-hospital-to-receive-ebola-patient-in-atlanta“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. Barter goods such as alcohol, ciggies and tobacco whether you smoke or not will be of great value.
I agree with soap and would add cleaning soap such as fairy or lifebuoy, shampoo, toothpaste and deoderant to that as well.
Screws and nails could be handy barter items tooBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Before soap flakes became common, my Gran had big blocks of soap and a grater. She grated flakes off the soap block into a small amount of very hot water so that they dissolved well before adding it to the general washing water.0 -
Am about to do some research about putting a solid tyre (GreenTyre) on my bicycle, which may involve a sojourn to a couple of nearby shops and a phone call or two, as well as online stuff. Anyone here used this product? I'm getting tired of punctures and am thinking long-term, if there's trouble, having puncture-proof bike tyres might be very beneficial.
You can get kevlar tyre protectors that go between the tyre and the tube. They are not perfect but can cut the numbers of punctures by a significant amount. I used them on all my bikes and would have one puncture every couple of years rather than every few weeks. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -

I use a bike only lightly, mainly at weekends, and until about 4 years ago had gone over 20 years without a puncture at all, then went through a spate of them, 1-2 per year, which I considered shocking. Gets old very quickly, and particularly galling when you pick up a drawing pin where some nitwit has dropped it in the road.
After consultations with two bike shops which I trust, have decided against the GreenTyres and am going for a conventional tyre but will discuss this Kevlar thing with my man. Bike will go into the shop tomorrow afternoon and will be done early next week when I'm at work and then he'll call me and I'll go collect it. He's a Pashley specialist, and I need some other things tweaked at the same time, so it's all good.
Boy will it be good not to have an upside-down bike in the living room.Righty, arrangements made, must get luncheon then move on to the next gig. Sun is shining and there's an allotment in need of titivation.
Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

No worries I have found the website it is lifted from, it would surely be polite to acknowledge the author though?

Actually it wasn't '' lifted '' from anywhere, it was being shared by the creator on my facebook and I copied it...as you cannot see my facebook if you are not listed as my friend ......and neither is anyone else on here. I will add their name next time but I am not lifting them from any websites and I have the permission of all the people concerned to share on here and other forums to help them“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. I was laughing at the talk of selling weeds as the Greeks actually do pick and sell them. It is known as Horta....wild greens. I have no idea which to pick so I buy them myself at the market or in the village. They are blanched for a couple of minutes then served with olive oil and lemon juice, very tasty and very nutritious. It costs a couple of euros a big bag full.“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. When in a state of security he does not forget the possibility of ruin.” Confucius (551 BC - 479 BC):A0

Excellent thread, and has given me a lot to think about.
2tonsils - your posts about the situation in Greece in the earlier part of the thread were very interesting - hope things have settled down a little for you.
