I know a few who will be impacted by that flooding in Worthing and Portslade. Torrential rain and flash floods around here at this time of year are rare. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -
There is some seriously important weather coming v soon, will impact all of us badly. I am not allowed to say anything but updates will be given on http://www.weatheraction.com/displayarticle.asp?a=681&c=5 . I will be becoming mole-like and making my house into a cave. Cannot say any more but utterly scary0

It is very hard to trust anything coming from the Russian media. I have heard one Russian conspiracy theory that this was actually MH370. They killed all the passengers and dismantled the aircraft which the Americans have smuggled into Schipol to reassemble and then using a pilot to take the aircraft off from Amsterdam with a bomb aboard to detonate over Eastern Ukraine solely to discredit Russia.
It is growing clear that the Russians have significant influence over what happens is Eastern Ukraine with many Russian troops advising the independence fighters. The fact that the crash site was not secured allowed evidence to be destroyed.
Ultimately this was a mistake by the Russians and their independence fighters in Ukraine. Putin has a plan to recover as much of the former republics back under Russian control and this will not end here.
The problem is that many American websites have their own agenda. So it does get hard for ordinary people to sort the facts from fiction and the cause and effect. Especially when outright lies are included. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -
Kittie, I have been making plans for this happening to Greece for some time. I do feel it will impact much of Europe as well as the UK. Nice to see you on here, hope you are well. This autumn is going to be interesting to say the least. We have just cancelled all visitors until next year, we have a house to waterproof and prepping to do... the unusual storms are already hitting much of Europe, its just that they are not being talked about. If anyone wants to follow the updates from Europe please pm me and I will send you my profile link on facebook or my email address so you can keep up to date. I will keep posting on here giving you as much notice as I can when I have early warnings. We are on one here at the moment. Had a sudden storm this morning which hit a house and set it on fire. All safe but electrics and wifi etc got fried. Anticipating the upcoming events and trying to make our house weather proof at the moment.“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. When in a state of security he does not forget the possibility of ruin.” Confucius (551 BC - 479 BC):A0

I just need to say to please don`t make assumptions about the type of weather to expect in august. The warning only came out this evening. I won`t be posting on here often as I have weaned myself off mse. Be prepared for dangerous extremes, there will be no notice from met o, as already observed in SE.0

I haven't caught up with yesterday's posts yet but thought people might be interested in our local council's new initiative. I've copied the following form my post on another thread.
Darn, no I haven't, because I clicked Ctrl+v instead of Ctrl+CWill try again! OK, here goes:
I spent some time y'day filling in an online survey for our local council. As with all councils, their funding from central government is being cut year on year, and they are asking residents' opinions on how their budget should be spent.
They say that if things were left as they are, CT would need to rise by 12% next year to balance their books.
Council Tax is not allowed to rise by more than 2% (I don't know if that's orders from Govt or just that the council doesn't want to alienate the many Tory voters who live here and are doing quite nicely thank you) so you choose from their list of possibilities where you think spending should be increased or decreased.
When you decide about something, a little notice comes up to tell you what the consequences will be. and if your ideas mean Council Tax going up by more then 2%, you can't submit the survey!
In the end I managed to work out ways to make CT go up by only 2% without reducing essential services to the most vulnerable people in our community, but as the council's funding will be reduced every year for the next few years, what's to happen? I can't see how it can be managed without leaving people in desperate straits.
One of their possible suggestions was to make more money by making everyone pay at least 25% of Council Tax regardless of their circumstances :eek::eek:
Of course the poor, infirm and disabled are as a whole the least likely to be in a position to fill in an online survey  So the results will probably be skewed, and the Council will probably reduce services to those most in need and say "But that's what most respondents wanted!"0 -
UK Warnings
Weather Warning
Issued by the Met Office
Monday 28th July
YELLOW WARNING for RAIN
Heavy thundery showers are expected across parts of East Anglia and southeast England, including the London area,
My extremely thirsty garden would be grateful for a few yellow warnings.
Oop north where men are men and sheep are afraid, we can handle it.0 -
It made me laugh when I read it was like Armageddon. And I'm in the south!
I think I need to have a good look at my stocks. I've been running the freezer down, but am questioning this. Although I guess tins are best to stock up on for an emergency. Need more water as well.
The news has made me panic a bit. Although I'm avoiding it as it makes me so sad.0
