Hi everyone. I've been lurking on this thread for ages, and really enjoy reading your ideas and practices.
I've been reading a few blogs mainly by people based in America, and wondered if anyone on here vacuum seals with the mason jars? I've been looking at getting a foodsaver and the canister accessory pack from Lakeland, but as it'll cost probably £80, I want to ask if others have found it useful?
Would be grateful for your responses. Thank you

A few pages back there was a little discussion on food and other prices. Thought this might interest some of you. It seems that we are in for it here in the US.
According to the latest data released today by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, year-over-year gains in some food products at the producer level have been truly spectacular.

    Pork is up 28%.

    Processed turkeys are up 20.4%.

    Dairy products are up 10.7%.

Fresh and dry vegetables are up 8.4%.

Fresh fruits and melons are up 7.5%.

I am not sure if anyone can help, I need some advice about a hit and run incident.
I can't help I'm afraid but as mentioned you might have more success in the motoring forum or the insurance one http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=21
Also the Pepipoo site might be useful. It's mainly for people contesting speeding tickets etc but someone might be able to advise.

Also there is an advice forum on digital spy http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=150
The car forum on diynot might also be worth a try

I knew Mum would probably have a golf ball, as she's a bit of a Womble and would have seen it outside somewhere when walking, thought to herself that's a perfectly good golf ball going begging and wandered home with it.

Love a bit of old style wombling myself :) my best find was a working mobile phone about 15 years ago - no sim card in it so I guess someone had upgraded and couldn't be bothered with recycling, its still going strong as an alarm clock .... and I'm happy to pick up the 1p, 2p and 5p that get tossed away ..... we often walk our dogs next to a golf course and its an unlucky day that we don't come back with at least one :)

If the weather is okay this weekend, I'm planning a spot of free-range wombling in the hedgerows for long willow whips to fashion into natural wreaths for Christmas (after all it is July!)

Food is going up here too. The increases bear no relation to the official inflation figures which are based on a 'shopping basket' of various goods including electrical items. If anyone with clout is reading this I challenge you to produce a 'shopping basket' figure for food only!
Food can't help but go up if only due to the extreme/uncharacteristic global weather in recent years. I just wish they wouldn't try to treat the general population like muppets. We know what we have to fork out and we know that the basics of food, heating, lighting etc are going up faster than our incomes. :(
  • I came back from a shopping trip this afternoon, and the thermometer on my outside wall was reading 100 degrees f.

The one on my inside LR window sill, was reading 110 degrees f.

  • 30c is 86f.
  • 30c is 86f, it is forecast to be nearer 32c/89.6f here.

It was120f in my greenhouse today, all the vents and the door were left open and I put a watering can full of water in there to help to cool it down a bit.

I gave the garden a really good soaking with the hosepipe tonight, it was looking parched.

I have little baby runner beans appearing, but something has had one of my courgettes and two of my kale have been munched :(
DH is out with the lights on and he is dispatching all slugs and snails that he can see.
