Oh sweetie, what a rubbish piece of news and I don't blame you for having a southern comfort. Sending you all good wishes and hoping that things progress slowly and that medical care is able to mitigate the effects.

I'm under consultant's orders to have an annual eye test as my meds could damage my sight and I would encourage everyone reading not to take your sight for granted and not to go more than 2 years maximum between tests, even if you're not a speccy like me.

An optician told me that in the space of one month he had discovered the following; a 16 y.o. girl with such high pressure in her eyes she was on the verge of going blind; she was sent straight into the hospital. And a 19 y.o. with a symptomless tumour in the back of her eye which was on the verge of penetrating her brain and becoming inoperable. She had immediate surgery and lost that eye but it saved her life.

So have your check-ups regularly, lovely peeps, and encourage your rellies and friends to have theirs, our peepers are precious.

Been horribly busy today and am pooped so will have supper, cruise the interwebulator a bit and then chill with a DVD.

:D I have YS chipolata sausages; they're almost too cute to eat. Well, almost, cute ain't gonna save them because I is a hungry person.

totally agree with you gq, my optician spotted something in January and sent me to the gp who referred me to the hospital, the only trouble was that it took four months for an appointment with the consultant:mad:
i would also urge everyone to have a regular dental check up, because they can spot oral cancer at an early stage and can refer you straight to the hospital.
i have a white mark in my mouth and the last time i went to the dentist she wasn't sure what it is, but thinks it might just be a cyst but she wants it checked out to be on the safe side and has referred me to the hospital, heaven knows how long i will have to wait for an appointment . to top it all it is three weeks tomorrow since my op and i still haven't had an appointment through for outpatients aaaarghhh i am so fed up with horspitals :( 6 consultants and counting, dh reckons i collect them like others collect stamps :o

One bit of good news though, he told me not to waste my money buying new glasses :p especially as mine cost £400 a pair because they are so complex  silver lining and all that ;)
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

BB, so sorry to hear your news. My mum had to have operations on her cataracts, and was thrilled with the result, but you're right, they don't do the operation until it's really obvious you need it. Sending lots of good thoughts, and wish I could find a suitable smiley in the list for "don't worry"...

Potting the peppers and toms into their final pots this morning, what a job,my arms are dead already and got about 50 more to go!!
Overplanted the peppers this year as my seeds were so old I needed to use them up and I want some for dehydrating as well as fresh and frozen.

Beautiful day I'm stripped off to a tshirt already I may even get a tan lol

I'm too knackered to get off the couch today... using the time to think up things to do when am back in action. One thing I was thinking of is this -
If the shops were shut NOW - no cheating! - would you be able, honestly, to provide 3 meals a day until for example Monday? Would you have every single thing you usually have? Or would you run out of bread/milk/salt/potatoes? Just be honest, sit and think it out :D
  • YES,YES,YES and for many Mondays after that, but I'd have to be inventive to give us variety in the long term and make the meals appealing. I've got all the makings for soda bread or bannocks, I've a freezer full of ingredients and homegrown fruit and veg and a good store in the storeroom. The only thing I'd run out of in a couple of weeks time (if I rationed what I do have) is fresh cheese but I've got a couple of packs of ready grated parmesan to put in toppings and the world wouldn't end if we didn't have cheese would it??? Lyn xxx.

If I grated the cheese and froze it, it would make it last much longer so give us cheese to use in things and make them savoury!

With the exception of milk I could go for a week without any issue at all. I have a carton in the fridge that will last me until Monday. Though I will need to top up. If they were not available I would lose porridge and coffee access as I cannot stand black coffee or tea. Though I would last a month without a problem, the diet would be boring but I could cope.
It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.

Yeah, milk would be a problem here also. Normally I have the milkman, but have a 4 pint bottle in the freezer. I have a couple of long life bottles, and a carton of Marvel.

I detest the long life milk & the Marvel. I am not willing to spend much on them as they will never be used day to day, so will go past their dates in due course.

Fresh fruit & veg might be a problem. I have frozen peas & tinned tomatoes to make spag bol if TSHTF, but no large stores of other things. It's all I can do to eat up the quantity of fruit & veg in the smallest packs before they go mouldy, so I can't see any way of stocking up.

    Any suggestions?
  • Dehydrator??? What you can't use fresh you can process and store in a jar dry ready to use and not waste anything. I buy the Mr.T dried skimmed milk and always use it for making porridge, sauces, custard etc. I don't even mind it in tea but we run on skimmed anyway. It's £1.15 a packet and usually has a good long best before date(which I ignore anyway) and keeps well in the packet in a cool dry place.
