I can def vouch for the pigs lol.....
I am really toying with the idea to turn on of our pig paddocks into a growing area... but that would mean we would not have a piggy paddock near the house to keep a close eye on them... we have loads of over grown land to put pigs on, but fencing costs are very high... and as there is a footpath running through/alongside our strip of land, we can not use an electric fence.. plus I don't really like them lolWork to live= not live to work0 -
This poor woman crashed her car and wasn't found for six days:

In view of living & driving alone, I often wondered how I would summon help if this happened to me. I make sure that my (switched off) mobile phone is aways within reach when driving, just in case.
Suggest you guys do something similar.0 -
hmm... wonder whether I can borrow a pig and some chickens over the summer...0

For anyone who doesn't have a B&M (but does have a £stretcher) close by, £stretcher are selling a virtually identical single burner camping stove, for just £1 more than B&M, ie. £9-99.
£stretcher are also selling the gas canisters, at exactly the same price as B&M, ie. 4 canisters for £3-99.0 -

Suggest you guys do something similar. It's extraordinary that the lady survived. My blood chills thinking about how terrifying an ordeal that must have been. I'm a bit OTT about having arrival times and departures noted but the blessing is that I'd be difficult to mislay.
Which is fine by me; if I drop out of visibility I want plenty of people looking for me asap.
I once spoke to a man who had been in a severe car accident, with his vehicle hitting another which pulled out in front of him and spinning over and over into a field. The Police attended and went to him without any particular urgency as the expected to find a body not a live and conscious man, albeit with a broken neck, because of the state his car was in. He fully recovered. I've also known other cases where people have died in cars only a couple of meters off A grade roads, with thousands of cars passing for the several days they were there, because they were hidden by undergrowth and no one knew there was a car there.
There are some useful things to have with you on your person. A whistle doesn't cost much nor take up much space and whistle-blasts travel much further than cries. The international distress signal is 6 blasts, pause for a minute, followed by another 6. Not to be used unless you really are in an emergency btw. The response is 3 blasts back. Repeated several times, once contact is established, to help rescuers zero in on you.
If it's sunny, a mirror could bounce light. A torch could possibly be used after dark. In this lady's circumstance, possibly the best thing would have been an emergency smoke flare, but that's not going to be in most car kits.
And it's always well to remember that if you're crumpled up in the car, an emergency kit in the boot may be completely inaccessible whereas a simple whistle on the car keyring could be a lifesaver.
And a water bottle in the door pocket, and a few other bits and bobs close to hand, perhaps?Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Actually I think one of these might have been very handy, in her case.

Just noticed these solar powered shed lights, on sale at ASDA, for £10 each.
They produce 50 lumens which, I appreciate, isn't a huge amount, but what if you installed say 4 in your LR?
On the subject of solar power, there's a house near me, which has about 1/2 dozen solar panels on its roof.
Each panel looks about 5' x 4'.
I wonder if they produce enough power, to run the smaller electrical appliances (lighting, TV, computer etc.), without recourse to the mains?0 -

This actually did happen to someone I worked with. In fact she died at home and was found over a week later. No one dared ask about the dog.0 -

Assuming you mean a link to the shed lights (rather than the roof solar panels), here you go.
