Am I a bit thick in wondering how the sunlight charges them inside a shed?
  • The solar panel goes on the OUTSIDE.

There is a small solar panel that is attached to the outside of the shed.

Looks like there are 4 LEDs in the strip and presumably a battery in the casing?

:p I was wondering that, too, but all is now revealed.

Have just come back from archery class. Was chortling at class about how invisble middle-aged women like myself are, as had walked thru crowds across the city centre carrying a five and a half foot longbow (in a fabric tube) and a dozen arrows in another tube across my back and no one had batted an eyelid.

Y'see, I'd half been thinking I might end up explaining myself to t'Plod, which would have been interesting. But, get this; on the way back I got stopped by a journalist from the local paper wanting to know what I was doing with a bow and arrows in the city centre.

:D I was so taken aback I just said going home from archery class instead of something amusing like I'm about to ambush the sheriff of Nottingham, would you like to help? *

The moral of this story is, most people are incredibly unobservant, except journalists, who are nosy beggars. And bows which dismantle into smallish inconspicious cases are better for op-sec than longbows. If Mr Journo Man knew how many people are carrying around kick-a$$ compound bows which fire arrows at 200 ft per second, he'd be fascinated. And probably worried.

:D My new bow is very nice. And with an extra 6lb pull compared to the one I've been borrowing, it jams the arrows a good extra inch into the targets. Twang!!

    * I don't live in Nottingham, btw, but if the money was right, I'd be prepared to commute. :rotfl:

  • Well it's been an exciting prep-worthy BH weekend. We now have a lottie! :jSo been doing some digging and putting in some spuds, hoepfully not too late in the season. Not sure how well the ground has been looked after, it was grassed quite recently so the discussions of grass-related pests very helpful thanks and prepared to accept that we might not get much this year if that's the case. What a horrible story about the lady stuck in her car. Good ideas as always GQ.

Actually I think one of these might have been very handy, in her case.

I agree those are a good thing to have but I doubt it would have helped the lady in the article, if you look at the photos the car was upside down and it looked as though the windows would be broken anyway, she probably had her legs trapped under the steering rack if not crushed by the engine block (it said she was going to lose her feet). Always worth making sure that someone knows when and where to expect you. Wouldn't be suprised if no mobile coverage in the area in the photo, looked pretty rural and coverage not universal even here...

Interesting article here on Soylent, for those who don't fancy cooking:

It's a meal substitute - not Soylent Green, definitely doesn't have greens in!

Has it really come to this? Drinking gooey lemonade in lieu of food? Doesn't sound very delicious to me.

I have one of those solar lights in my rabbit shed and solely on that basis I wouldn't recommend, it was very patchy and then stopped working completely.

But the original pic didn't show it and nor does the info on the Asda site! Come a SHTF situation I'll be the one reading the instruction booklets!

Interesting list of sites you need to remove your accounts from if you want to go off-grid. US-based but interesting nonetheless.
