A few years back we were legally licence free for a period. Basically the main telly blew up and the kids telly was only on a dvd player upstairs. So we decided to save some money whilst we saved up for a new tv, I had just had a new baby and eldest was only little so not too bothered about no tv for a few months.


The amount of paper they throw at you is crazy-is this still the same. Eventually a numpty turned up on the doorstep unannounced. Picture short haired massive baliff type. He was very aggressive and virtually shouted at me- a woman with a tiny baby in her arms I've come to see why you haven't paid for you licience. I stuttered out something about not needing one till we got a new tv, and he said you are lying I can see a tv through the curtains-it was youngest on a kids game on the PC. He was aggressive and tried to put his foot in the door and kept saying he needed to come in. Now I was alone with two small children so this was pretty scary and intimidating and I can see how some would be scared into letting them in/signing something.


He then thrust a paper at me that had something written in pen that he covered with his hand and he tried to insist I sign to "confirm the visit had been made". Luckily I refused to sign without reading so he stormed off.


TBH if they are still as nasty and aggressive then the BBC should be utterly ashamed and the sooner this is decriminalised the better. Its a regressive, outdated tax in effect.


My eldest hasn't watched a live tv programme for years and I suspect his generation will simply refuse to pay, so I suspect the LF will be gone within a generation. I think it would be better to do a transition where the LF is gradually reduced and withdrawn. Make the BBC leaner and meaner and probably partly funded by taxes, partly by donations (al la PBS and the like). The BBC could concentrate on commissioning less but better TV, rather than chasing ratings.

I have lived in a 1935 property which was costing us an incredible amount in fuel just to get background heat. We applied for help with insulation, only to find that it already had cavity wall and loft insulation. Cue a load of damp issues with the fabric of that house and we moved... to a very small new build - super insulation, cheap to heat and only needed background assistance with the heat.

The house we are in now is an 80's house and not so very well built in comparison to a 2012 new build but the issues lie in ventilation as well as insulation. Houses built without adequate ventilation will suffer terribly when we try to insulate nooks and crannies.

It's pretty bad, and has been getting worse recently.

I have been getting one Threat-O-Gram a month, since I went LLF, just over 4 years ago.

These last two months (Feb and March), it's been two per month.

Makes no difference to me, because I read them, :rotfl:, then file them away.

Some day they might serve as a historical (or even hysterical ) record.

Some are nasty and aggressive, while others seem almost resigned to being ignored, and having the door closed on them.

Maybe they get used to the door being closed on them.

Of course, these are only the ones we see on Youtube, so it's difficult to know how they behave off camera.

Mind you, there are a few, who act nasty and aggressive, even when being filmed.

Anyone else noticed the Beeb have stopped calling the Russian/crimea/Ukraine events an invasion or crisis. It seems to be reffered to as Russia annexing Crimea. Is this deliberately making it sound less aggressive as TPTB have decided they don't fancy a little Balkan war after all?


I can see Russia referring to an annexation, but the US and EU maintain the Crimea vote and parliamentary action to go back to Russia is illegal so why aren't they using terms like invasion, armed takeover or military coup.
