It was circa 8 pm, if memory serves. It's a conspiracy to get at me! Actually I've only had one random loss of connection for a few hours in the 3 yrs I've been with PlusNet, so mustn't grumble. But we're several hundred miles apart so we wouldn't be on the same servers, I expect.
After 10 pm I was hibernating under my quilt like a sleepy thing, can't stay up much past that and function the next day.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I stopped the kelp for a few weeks then re-started it and am starting to feel half human. Even got out in the garden yesterday and did some digging
Reading a lot of interesting stuff recently, about energy prices and food going up later this year, and I have a Q. Where do lentils come from? Has the bad weather affected that crop? Am thinking it would be a good idea to up the stash of those because I make a lot of soup.0 -
I was having connection issues last night as well, GQ, but put it down to being with Talktalk. A BT engineer once told me, off the record, that when the exchange is having problems, it'll "drop" the non-BT lines first, How it can tell which is which, I don't know, but I do know how you could do it software-wise, so it is probably possible.
Was trying to help Aged Mother locate a suitable new microwave (horrible things!) online at the time; they don't want an all-singing all-dancing model to replace the 31 year-old previous incumbent, just a straightforward 2-dial job with the right size plate for their meals-on-wheels. Do any of the online retailers list the actual plate size? Not that we could find... especially not when my connection kept fading out!
Mardatha, it does worry me how totally reliant on cheap energy my parents' retirement flat is. It's new enough that it probably does have reasonable insulation levels, but it also has huge windows, big doors (for wheelchair access) and the all-electric kitchen, in the centre of the block, has no natural light or ventilation. The bathroom is also big (wheelchairs again) and very draughty when the window is open to keep the condensation down. Very luxurious, but hopeless in a power cut.Angie - GC Aug25: £374.16/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -

Am thinking it would be a good idea to up the stash of those because I make a lot of soup. They seem to grow them in lots of parts of the world, Mar; Canada, Australia, India, Turkey......dunno where ours are imported from as I have mine decanted into glass jars and don't have a pkt to refer to.
They seem to keep for years anyway so I'd just stock up on them, keep them dry and away from the light and hope for the best.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I will be getting some more lentils soon. I might get an airtight storage drum for them, and the big bags of rice that I also get. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0

OK, who broke the forums last night?
There was I with MSE open but watching someting on YooTooob on another tab and when I flicked back to see what y'all were up to, the forums were down.
Shortly after that my entire interweb fell over to the point where Firef0x couldn't even find my browser. Heck, I had to go off and do some housework, it was that bad.:rotfl:
Anyone else have their connection fail yestereve? I'm with PlusNet, as I think Mardatha is also? If I can't get onto ZH I tend to think Here is comes (the financial crisis) and feel the urge to get out the tin hat.
ETA; ginnyknit, my LL did the same with my wee flat. In December. Every window out and blowing a hooley. I was huddled in a corner of my sitting room to keep out of their way. Once you take my windows out, there isn't a lot left of the walls, the place being so small. At least in my case I was re-windowed (all four) in a couple of hours.
I've had a few situations over the past couple of nights where I click on the thanks and then a large box pops up with lots of gobbled de gook code an stuff. I close the box and it happens on the next thanks and the I get the message to say mse is down. Everything else works but I have to exit mse and sign in again. I was having issues with the internet dropping out loads late at night a few weeks ago but it's been fine recently. Fingers crossed it stays good as I'm a right grouch when I don't get my fix of t'internet:o
Anyone else get these strange boxes pop up ? I've done a full scan and everything seems clear of nasties.0 -

I haven't seen seen pop up boxes but rarely use the thanks button.
I have seen a lot of MSE is down messages, but pressing F5 (refresh) loads the page correctly. Given there has been several announcements about the forum going down for maintenance as well as the new design stuff, I'm guessing there's some ongoing work behind the scenes that's throwing some errors.

May I suggest critter and rodent proof is more important than air tight for cereals and pulses.
Both ship and are stored in paper sacks on an industrial scale, so air tight is not an issue, however critters are. Depending on the quantities you buy- I recommend old fashioned glass sweet jars if you can find them, though for serious quantities stainless steel bins work.0 -
Just popping into have a moan - thanks to Elantan's "cooking bag" challenge I am now sitting in my workroom surrounded by scraps of patterns, a working prototype and now the daft cat has just covered herself in polystyrene balls after diving into the box of filling!!!
Stuff it - I am off downstairs to have some cake - here's a piece for anyone who fancies a wee nibble.
Its ice-cream cake BTW - so there is always a slice in the freezer for "emergencies"
MG
