Gosh, I never thought of myself as a refusenik! We haven't had a television set either since we got married in 1981, so I guess we've saved ourselves a few quid by now
We are the ones who are improperly programmed (pun fully intended). Always remember that George Orwell modelled a lot of 1984 on his time working in the BBC.:p
I LOVE your username, btw. Very clever.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Hi all, just catching up again!
So Clist I have a couple of gallons of paraffin and a lot of use able oil lamps! I buy them from fleabay when cheap and local.(they don't post well!)
I have been sowing seeds and sorting the veg patch. Repotting the blueberries and a ys cranberry bought for pennies. I have loads of Strawberry's to pot on plus seedlings of alpine ones. Sorted out the fruit first as it is so expensive. Got a couple of new fruit trees that I will pot as I don't know where they are going yet. Got peas, broad beans,chillies,peppers,5 types of toms and squash started.
Prepping wise quite quiet, added a new oil lamp, bought a thrifty gardener book at CS for 50p and a book titled...........wait for it.........." is it just me or has the !!!! hit the fan "
I couldn't leave it there for 50p!!
Been adding useful free Kindle books plus the usual shtf reads!
Been building a barn for the imminent lambing although will get into trouble with TPTB as we haven't permission! Put in application and they wanted it in the most unsuitable and dangerous place. They didn't seem to understand that we can put up a shed twice the size according to NFU!
Anyway keep prepping Elaine x

A quick turn of the turn-buttons and I'm out.
I have those on one of my doors, reinforced by Birmingham bars. I don't live in a place that has a particularly crime rate, nor do I have anything that's particularly or interest, it's just that uninvited guests are most unwelcome here. Have been burgled in the past so that has put me off for life. All they took was a plastic briefcase with nothing in.. Numpties.
These are Birmingham bars for anyone who is interested:

Does anyone know where you can get the woven wick thingies for paraffin lamps? Thanks in anticipation
I get mine from a local Hardware Store, @ £2 per metre.
You can also get them from Amazon UK, but you will need to measure the width of the wick, so you order the correct size.
Make sure you measure accurately, as the sizes are close to each other, as in as little as 1/16" difference.0 -

http://www.birminghambar.co.uk/Y'know, that's the first time I've heard of Birmingham bars. London bars are not at all unknown around here. The Polis told me that they detest them as they defy even pneumatic battering rams. They're commonly fitted by drug dealers to their own doors............
The Polis don't always use the pneumatic battering rams, they also have the shaped steel ones (imagine a skeletonised oversized sketch of a rifle) which are known around here as The Big Red Keys.

Suddenly coy What makes you think we've broken anything?
GQ Because you usually call us to tell us you've broken into one of our houses or flats. Address......?
And thus it proved to be. Sometimes they call us to tell us they've broken down the door of XYZ Street and we check and tell them it isn't one of ours. You can almost hear them going ohsh*t.:rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Mind you, I could paper a small room with the blinking letters they send!
I know what you mean.
I keep mine in a folder.
You never know, they could be worth something as a "historical document" (or maybe a "Hysterical Document") in years to come, when the licence has been consigned to the dustbin of history.

I rather like the idea that, in a power cut, I'll be one of the very few people (possibly the only person) in the area, with working electric lighting. :cool:0
