LOL I just love how autocorrect just gets it so wrong sometimes I was getting a bit worried about your poor chooks PIC !
Si Clist I am in awe of your neat and tidy storecupboard I could look at nicely canned goods all day! Would love to hear what you're doing as the year progresses.
I had a bit of an oops moment and killed another cooker after xmas but my new one is so much more suitable for preserving so what with that and the scally I'm hoping to have a good year putting up stuff.
The raspberries I dehydrated are excellent so planning to dry more this year which will save me heaps of freezer space.
This plane thing is weird isn't it they're now saying it might be pirates! I hope it is something like that really as the families at least have a chance of their loved ones returning home..
P.S why are my smilies not working I sound right miserable lolol using windows 8 does that make a difference??0 -
Well, well, well it would seem from this mornings news that our speculations and suspicions regarding the missing plane were not entirely unsubstantiated were they? The paper earlier in the week ran a little item about one of the pilots inviting pretty girls into the cockpit during the flight and even of them staying in the cockpit during the flight and it doesn't take a Mensa candidate to imagine that an interested group could supply attractive enough bait to catch his eye and gain access for whatever their intentions are does it? I guess we'll get very little info until it's over one way or another but it would appear that a whole plane full of people is expendable to save face at an international level wouldn't it?
SI CLIST welcome aboard the thread, you sum up beautifully the reasons for our choice of lifestyle. We too can't afford to run a 'Lifestyle' but have done the best we can to simplify our lives and become as self reliant as we possibly can. Have made choices that the outside world frankly sees as loopy and simplified our lives and expectations as wholly as it's possible to do. We have an allotment, large garden, greenhouse and polytunnel. I'm like a frantic squirrel in the growing season and have many means of preserving our harvests from the big freezer to the dehydrator and room to store what we produce. We've had the woodburner installed (only one, real envy of a kitchener to cook on though) and don't run the central heating, we grow apples and make our own cider and have aquired the equipment we feel necessary to cope in an increasingly uncertain world. No one I think can have it all, but what we have will make our lives more comfortable should TSHTF in any major way.
BOB don't you think that if you are the only person to have lit windows during a power outage that it might make you the first port of call for a visit from the unscrupulous public to relieve you of the means you do have? I've spent a not inconsiderable time trying to fathom out a way of keeping the fact that we have solar lamps a secret from the folks who might want them too!!! I wouldn't want to advertise the fact that we had lighting in an adverse situation even here where in the main folks are civilised and the area is pretty safe! Lyn xxx.0 -
Have a great day at the lottie GQ I'm waiting for the wind to drop so I can sow some carrots in the raised bed,I knew I should have done it yesterday!
Lynn hows my little Docky??
It was really interesting seeing how many folks lock their doors etc I really should be more safety conscious I suppose,
mind you Rosie is a great alarm system. I find it strange though as I live on what would be considered a 'rough estate' and many of you sound like you live in such lovely places,it's a shame you have to feel unsafe like that.0 -
Morning D&DD nice to have you back in the chat again. Docky is fine thanks other than a bump on his nose that has grown big enough to be slightly concerning us both. We've got a CT Scan booked for him for the week after next (thank heavens we're insured though!) and won't make any decision on what action to take until we know what the 'lump' actually is. If it's a tumor though and embedded we've already made the decision that invasive and extensive surgery is not an option as it would be really unfair to him. We'd keep him painfree and as comfortable as possible and let him have the good life he's used to until it became untenable. Hopefully though it will prove to be fixable and not need massive vetty person intervantion. I'll keep you posted, Lyn xxx Anna byggg SSSSSLLUUUUUTRRRRRRRRRPPPPPP from the Dockling!!!!! xxxxx.0

Aw so sorry to hear that Lyn hopefully it's just a beauty spot as he's so gorgeous, tis a worry tho isn't it.
Another one of my nice neighbours is moving today but at least we have a nice one replacing them this time,we've had 3 families move in after swapping who have caused havoc here..starting to consider my options but there's never a good time to uproot and move miles away is there?
Ooh in other news next door have bought a camper van with solar panels and assorted gizmos..so come the zombie invasion we'll be set0 -
I didn't lock doors either, but got a fright a few months back, I heard a lady down the road in a lovely big old farmhouse had a man walk in and ask her for sex! Apparently he had been pestering school lassies in the street in Gala and then got on a bus, got off and saw her house, which is right next to the road.
Only crime here is pinching stuff off farms and sheep rustling. We are a neighbourhood watch and farmwatch area.
D3 I'm on Windows 8 and I have smilies!:T:D

I hate cleaning..thought I'd better do some as I was getting notes left in the dust on the t.v
Ali you'll love them they are so tasty as well as pretty if you leave them alone for a while the purple gets deeper into the skins as time goes on I usually sow mine in rose pots and use them up last.
Mar I dunno whats wrong with my smilies I did a search on the techie bit and they reckon its a combo of windows 8 and internet explorer sumthin' or other so tried doing a compatabilty thing but still no luck *sad face smiley* I'll wait til I get a son to help they'll crack it soon enough but one's at work and the others are busy killing zombies at present..
Right wind has dropped so speaking of carrots I'm off to finally get some sown.0 -
Hi all got a bit of an egg glut. Hens and ducks seem to have gone into overdrive an d we can't keep up with the supply! Any suggestions for preserving them or using them in recipes that will freeze? I have some pickled but no one but me eats them. I have made omelettes, curry, (yuck) and a couple of quiches (yum!). How well do cakes freeze? If I can get them to the freezer before they get eaten! Any suggestions as I loads of eggs!!
