So has nobody else got a Tilley lamp and a gallon of paraffin tucked away somewhere "just in case"? We've even got as spare mantle for ours ... somewhere ...

FUDDLE when you go to L*dl have a look at their scandinavian stuff the brand is 'SODERGARTEN' and the quality is superb. I got an enormous pack of Rye Crispbreads for 99p and they are lovely, really good value at that price, Lyn xxx.

Yes I get loads when I get the chance. Though overall there are few products that SM own brand are not as good as. I very rarely get brands now.

I don't know if any of you guys read 'The Slog'. It seems that British libraries have deemed everything other than the home page to be dangerous extremism:

BTW. Did anyone notice another trader died yesterday, or are we so used to it that it's no longer news?

Thanks for the leccy tips Bob I always get confused with inverters and suchlike..I have tried my Weza out charging my electric cigs tho and it works so at least if the SHTF I can still have a puff!!!

Ginny glad to hear the trees are going well mine are great and I hope we'll get some apricots and nectarines this year.We had some nectarines last year off our mini one and the tree I got from Browns is double the size and has more blossom,so here's hoping.

Seedlings are starting to emerge and I got some more weird veg to try,Deep purple carrots which are purple all the way through and stay that colour when cooked *allegedly* and some salad blue potatoes which are supposed to produce blue mash, the boys will either like them or run away when I dish them up..

I have a few hurricane lamps and a gallon of paraffin - is that the same thing?:p

Morning all, been reading and nodding along but far too busy to be able to contribute. I think work are trying to kill me :( I have to do a lot of my 1% pay rise - what's the rate of inflation again?? I am seriously considering jacking...

Last week I got an email from on high complaining that my modules weren't achieving a sufficiently high pass mark - apparently 100% pass but 47% average mark isn't good enough. So a module that was ratified yesterday got 98% pass and 69% average was questioned as to whether it was "too easy". no, it bl00dy well isn't too easy - those results happened because I have nearly killed myself getting students to that standard. Damned if you do etc.

    Anyway, rant over..

I quite like a maccy d's on occasion - best hangover food ever. :o My kids had one about once a month, on average. Now? almost never, though in fact DD had one last week. They know that homecooked is better. Maccy D and the like have their place - on a long journey with kids, they are a good quick place to stop, fairly cheap, and kids think of it as a "treat" to break up the journey. Typically it would be the case that they wouldn't have one for weeks / months and then end up with two within a week :rotfl: In New York last year, I think we ended up with three in a row as our schedule was so "full on" :o

But, I take the point, that continued use of such foods cannot be good. I live in a town that, at times, has been one of the "fattest towns" in the UK. So when OH goes to the doctor and weight loss is mentioned she just says "but you're nothing compared to others in the town" I have a colleague who is extremely overweight with a catalogue of medical issues - including asthma, sleep apnoiea (sp?) and diabetes. I have never seen anyone eat such rubbish - muffins, crisps, chocolate. She says "oh I wish I could be slim like you" - I take in homemade soup and salad. The time she has off sick is incredible - and the rest of us work ourselves ragged to cover.

    Grrrr

We, too, have a fire evacuation plan - allowing for different eventualities. If it hasn't been said, it is a good idea to keep a torch in your bedside table as a fire can put the electrics out and the smoke can disorientate. We always leave the keys in the door at night too, preferring to have the car nicked than die trying to find them (door is locked, if anyone got that far I'd be happy for them to just take the car)

Last week I mentioned that my next door neighbour is building an extension.

Today he is putting in new drains for an en-suite, and I see he has a circular inspection pit ready to go in. I just had an advert for this pop up on the side of Zerohedge:

    http://www.drainage-systems-online.co.uk/acatalog/Domestic_Sewage_Pumping_Station.html?gclid=CMiJ7I3hkb0CFcuWtAodjgEAAA

Now I certainly haven't been looking at those items. Presumably my neighbour's and my IP addresses are so similar that Google thinks I have.

Crikey VJsmum. Aren't you worried about burglars coming in your house?

I keep my keys & glasses next to the front door, and am confident I could find them in the dark.

You need to make sure that they are not visible from the letterbox. There are reports of car keys being stolen via a fishing rod through the letter box. Under such circumstances insurance companies might not pay out.

You plug the red ended plug into a 12V supply, such as a car cigarette lighter socket, or a Jump Starter pack, then you plug 12V devices (eg. soldering irons, inspection lamps, tyre inflaters) and USB devices (eg. Mobile phone chargers, MP3 players) into the sockets on the main body of it.

Me, I'll be plugging a mobile phone multi charger into the USB socket
    Octopus.gif
    and an 80W inverter
    41fle5nmvtL._SX300_.jpg
into one of the 12V sockets.

Bob, does the "12v supply" you describe include a 12v battery, hopefully charged by solar panels?
