Something else to consider mrsmortenharket, is the sort of food you should have in your store-cupboards.
Plenty of quick cook foods is sensible.

Evening people,
DS2 is of the opinion that we should should prep for a zombie apocalypse, his reasoning being that if we prep for that we'll be prepped for anything:rotfl:!
I'm getting increasingly concerned at the overbearing PTB seemingly picking on anyone who is trying to live self sufficiently. Conspiracy theorists are mocked, but really why would TPTB be bothered about you growing food in your garden or collecting rain water or living offgrid, or selling organic food, etc, etc if it doesn't oppose their own interests? which seem to be promoting dependence on corporations that can sell you these things. i have to admit that I had a little weep at the article about collecting rain water a couple of days ago and had to turn off the computer and go and do something else. I cleared out some clutter in my kitchen cupboards, so was probably a good thing:cool:
I'm trying very hard to keep positive, but there's a sense of impending doom lurking:(Official DFW nerd - 282 'Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts'

Evening preppers
We had a run in with the TC people recently - DH's accountant did the returns in such a way that it looks like we got paid a hefty amount from the business, but it stayed in the business, never even reached our account. Consequently, TC have stopped our payments and we have to pay a 4-figure sum back!! They'll have to have it back at a few quid a week.
On a brighter note, I have accidentally become the owner of about 60 seed potatoes, and will have to be bl00dy creative about where most of them go! :rotfl: I'm going to soak some peas ready to plant in loo roll inners and sow some herbs for the kitchen windowsill.
The HB round here have no camping stuff in yet, hoping they do soon as I fancy a couple of those little camping stoves for emergencies.
Local council website says our CT is frozen this time, but the water company bills usually go up by about 6% or a bit more. Not even thinking about energy bills yet. DH doesn't even earn minimum wage from his business, so glad I can make the pennies beg for their lives and that my infrequent freelance job still pays a few hundred quid a year! :rotfl:

We had a change of circumstances and they changed it while we were on the phone, maybe it depends on how helpful the person on the phone is?
The only good news we've had all week is I re homed a cat, lovely little fella and I hope he will be happy.

Oh, can we see a picture of p*ssy when you take one, PiC?0 -

Try B&M Bargains or, failing that, Amazon UK.

Apples, pears tomatoes, peppers, beans, fruit leathers are brilliant in it. Already using it thios year to dry purple sprouting brocolli thats I've shredded, and its great for 'instant' brocolli flavour in sauces and bakes:)

We don't have a mike on the PC, its a oldschool cobble affair!Thats what we did Bob, figured what our SHTF was and prepped for it. Ours is frequent power cuts due to location, so we have alot of wind up and solar lighting, as well as a generator. Next was very bad roads in the winter due to rural-ness! (The bad winter a few years back we din't see a gritter at all! And we lost power!)So it was a 3 month food supply of things we eat anyway! (and yes, thats alot of food!, hence the shelves)
Heating is log burner only, so no central heating to worry about.
But I still think of things we need!:D
Thankyou for the replyhave ordered the Andrew James one and because it was much cheaper have ordered some para cord, Dutch oven and a wind up torch/ lamp as well
Going to order a vacuum sealer as well and will slowly build up a BOB ... I did see a water purifier that I fancy so that will be when we have spare money,
I'm thinking ( and please correct me if I'm wrong) of having a few BOB's one for the car one in the house and one on my person ... Obviously they will be three very different types ... Thinking of working on the personal one first ... Something that I can carry on me at all times, I was thinking of a para cord bracelet but I am not allowed to wear any jewellry at work so something small that will fit in my pocket ... Cause u never know when u will need it0 -
Anyone have any opinions on a wonderbag ? Was thinking it might be handy of we have to leave quickly, shouldn't take up too much space and would reduce cooking etc0

Hi all, I ordered a dehydrator the other day, after someone mentioned them on here and I became suddenly obsessed with the idea! I ordered the Andrew James rectangular one (Elantan, is that the one you ordered?), it arrived today but I haven't had a chance to open the box yet. I read a lot of the MSE thread about them (Kittie seems to be queen of dehydrating!) and can't wait to get started!June Grocery Challenge £493.33/£500 July £/£500

Yes that's the one I haveI'm hoping to get started as soon as it arrives
I have an American pressure canner so plan on using both this year, I think also having a vacuum sealer will make it better for storing things, I have a long way to go and an awful lot to learn ... But I think it's a great idea to be prepared for things ... My heart goes out to those affected by the floods recently ... Seeing the devestation they have had to endure makes me think it would be a good idea to get some things in place should something happen ... Yes we can't predicate anything and if SHTF moment arrives and goes on for months like those poor souls down South have had to deal with then we wouldn't be prepared ... But having maybe a weeks start is a great idea I reckon0
