    From Sky News -

Oil major BP, which has a significant stake in Russia's biggest oil producer Rosneft, fell more than 1% on concerns of an escalation in tensions.

Separately, Rosneft shares slumped more than 8% in Russia.

Commodities were also volatile, with Brent Crude oil rising 2% and a combination of the crisis in Ukraine and poor weather combining to push wheat costs up almost 5%.

Gold was another asset to see gains as investors looked to move their money towards the traditional safe haven.

Good morning all, terrible situation in Ukraine ,I know nothing about what's going on as have been busy in other parts of my life so I am going to sit tonight while man child in scouts and read up on it, I tend to find anything about that neck of the woods quite baffling as its all KGB and spies etc and their even more corrupt than our own government.........is that possible,me thinks not! Anyway I can't comment until I get up to speed with it all. So much going on in the world so many disputes with different countries and so confusing, I just prepping for price hike now. Got heating and cooking sorted out if shift and want more food stuffsin. Poster earlier said cereals, flours will be in demand as USA had bad year so that's next on my agenda. Got us all for beds flannelette sheets, pillowcases and heavy duvets by doing the grocery challenge and saving the money up to buy them. So this months challenge will befor whatever I save I getting another water butt and more fruit trees.otherwise garden is as filled as I can manage it to be. Well oh is going to put up a wire type pot holder I think it MIT have been frugal sod posted one a while back for growing strawberries in? Sorry if I got the wrong poster. Was in charity shops on sat with mum got son 3 pairs of shorts 1pair cargo cream ones from next for 75p and 2from h and m for 50p each also a few tops so that's him for the summer kitted out completely for about 10 quid as I got loads of tops from preeeeemark last month for pennies. Got oh a couple pairs of shorts each for a quid each in chalaza shop too.unfortunatley I a more Rounded person so it's near impossible for me to get anything in charity shops. eBay or Asda does me. Well it's a lovely sunny day here cold but sunny. I planted sweet pea they on window sills along with tomatoes which seem to be taking really well. Every sill in our house is covered with pots. Have a great day all.x

I have a theory that it should be possible to isolate your electrics at the mains switch, plug a generator into a ring circuit and thereby maintain electrics for heating and such like so long as the capacities of the generator and the wiring are not overloaded. Can anyone confirm whether I am right please? The only possible snag I can see is that if the generator does not produce a clean sine wave the RCDs might trip?

:) Have you ever seen or owned a small dog who thinks he is a very large dog and gets right up into the face of dogs who outweigh him by a huge amount and gives them lots at attitude? When the size differential is so ridiculous that they could probably swallow him whole with no difficulty whatsover?

This is the problem some British politicians have, even those like Haig, who were born decades after the end of Empire. We're not a major player and we should get over ourselves and stop dancing to America's tune.

And yes, there are shedloads of things which need sorting out here in the UK and having our pols mind our business might be helpful rather than grandstanding internationally.
I am getting concerned that this will be used as an excuse to get them re-elected. They might be hoping for a Falklands Factor at the election.
It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.

Yes, that is correct. However in a SHTF situation you might not want to have a generator running.

I've had loads and loads of old seeds hanging about, from Approved Foods and other food shops, always meant to grind them to create wonderful, yummy mummy type foodstuffs :):):) and, erm, I realised I can soak them and sprout them. Cue a handful rinsed and soaked last Friday, in a jam jar, water is changed twice a day, and since I have approximately a million pairs of black tights, I cut the toe section out, tied it round the top with a piece of string. And they're sprouting :j Now I know it works, and without buying an expensive sprouter, I'll be doing enough for a helping a day.

There was something on the news about the Russian stock exchange tanking on opening and mention of destabilisation of gas supply/prices (can't remember which one it was).
Also latest news on Sky does not look good.

Oh bleep. Just followed that linkie, pineapple, thanks.

That made me wonder about other Russian invasions - Czechoslovakia in 1968, for example - wiki says 108 Czechs were killed. Ukraine has already suffered almost that at the hands of its own snipers ... This is not good.

I saw a tip on putting your salad in jars. Chopping it all up and filling seven jars, apparently the glass keeps it fresher than putting it in plastic tubs.

Great if your the only one in the house that eats salad.

Latest is Russia has apparently denied issuing an ultimatum so maybe doom has been postponed.
