Preparedness for when

I don't think that is 100% correct, in many cases the federal government advises people to have adequate stocks of food and emergency supplies. In addition how on earth would the FBI know how much food you have in your home.
I cannot remember where I saw it. It was a list of all the things that the FBI considered as terrorist behaviour. Clearly America has its problems with domestic terrorism and many are survivalists which might be why they are being looked at. Secondly unless you commit a crime they would have no reason to know what food stocks you had. Though should they have reason to raid you then it would an indicator of preparedness for trouble. It is like the signs of a psychopath, of the 20 you only need to score 12 but it could be any of them. In the same way of the terrorist scoring system you might have to tick a few more boxes to be a threat. While I have a lot of food indoors that is because I bulk buy to make the most of my delivery charges. I do not have many of the other things that would make me a threat to the nation or anyone.
I do see it being problematic. Good food stocks do help people even out the rises and falls in food prices, even if they are normal people. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -
William Hague is making me very nervous with the way he is sounding off and interfering over the Ukraine - he speaks as if Britain is a huge and respected international power force that will muscle in if the Soviet Union doesn't behave.........
I don't understand international politics and maybe I'm being simplistic but I think that tptb should get our own troubled, semi-bankrupt country in good order before wading in to fight other countries battles.:heartpuls The best things in life aren't things :heartpuls

Have you ever seen or owned a small dog who thinks he is a very large dog and gets right up into the face of dogs who outweigh him by a huge amount and gives them lots at attitude? When the size differential is so ridiculous that they could probably swallow him whole with no difficulty whatsover?
This is the problem some British politicians have, even those like Haig, who were born decades after the end of Empire. We're not a major player and we should get over ourselves and stop dancing to America's tune.
And yes, there are shedloads of things which need sorting out here in the UK and having our pols mind our business might be helpful rather than grandstanding internationally.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Problem is, charlie's-aunt, that war is good for the economy. Which means that now our adventures in the East are drawing to a close, we have to find another "theatre" to play in… We are still a very major player in the arms trade, and a good old punch-up would do wonders for shares.Angie - GC Jul 25: £225.85/£500 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -
Also there is a slight danger that Cameron will want to copy Thatcher on the Falklands, and use a "war" to unite the country behind the tory govt.0

I have one of those small dogs and after he's done barking he goes and finds the biggest pile of sh1te he can and then rolls in it.
Pretty much the same as our Government I would say :rotfl:

On the subject of prawns, it is ages since I brought any. Quite apart from the price, most supermarket ones seem to come from countries where the processes are reported to be a bit unhealthy/dubious.
As for Ukraine I'm all at sea with what the different factions are claiming and I keep changing my mind.. But the funniest thing on TV over the weekend has to have been John Kerry (with strangely 'fixed' hair) talking - with a straight face - about the unacceptability of invading a sovereign country on phony pretexts in order to assert one’s own interests in the 21st century.
I mean - you couldn't make it up. Pineapple nearly fell off her sofa0 -
When Hague appears on anything I cringe. I just think if people are watching him from another country what must they think of us.
It's a bit like the embarrassment of when your a teenager and your Dad picks you up from a party but starts talking to your friends, you know that "oh please shut up I just want to die" feeling.

Is it just me, or does anyone else think we should celebrate the thousand-page mark? I know it's a bad time all round, particularly in places beginning with U, and maybe this is irredeemably trivial - but cheers everyone, looking forward to the next thousand!

Actually, I'm amazed that the mods haven't asked us to start a new thread - on the dfw diaries, it was common practice to start a new one after 5000 posts, they used to say it slowed down the links. Maybe the upgrades mean that isn't a problem any more?
In any case, long live the thread!2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Morning everyone, The engineer didn't turn up yesterday to fix the boiler and when I rang the insurance after waiting all day I was told that they would be here between 8 and 12. It's been a much earlier start for me today and I'm thankful that at least the sun is out and it's not too cold.
I don't usually catch the bbc morning news, but several things have had me thinking this morning. I was struck by the rubbish reporting and the lack of focus regarding important issues. They have reported how missed patient appointments have cost the NHS over £1b, which has me somewhat confused. I get mad thinking of the money wasted by the NHS everytime I attend a large teaching hospital for myself or OH. There's the ridiculous number of flat screen tvs that are placed in every waiting area and department not to mention the frequent refurbishment of one particular department (3 times in about 6 years) We get an automated phone call 1 wk prior to all appts and as for the dis organisation in 1 particular dept well:mad: Seems to me they are playing the blame game, but how is it that missed appts can cost them ?
The bbc has been broadcasting audio from the pistorius case live whilst more important news is sidelined.
I'm watching the situation in Ukr@ine with concern and notice that the Russi@n stock exchange has crashed according to the bbc and it's having a knock on effect on other stock markets. I don't really understand the effects this could have for us, but I'm sure it's not good. It's going to be an interesting day.

Does anyone else get as wound up or irritated by the sound of hagues voice as much as by what he says ?
Something else I noticed in the news

The dates quoted for the trip 7th to 25th April (Easter BH 18th and 21st) Are they being sent somewhere safe in anticipation of trouble ? Just a thought.0
