Talking to DH today and he says he has a really nagging feeling that things are going to get really bad this year. Then he read this to me

Before depositing any kind of money in the bank, you need to research the financial soundness of that bank. Since the so-called end of the financial crisis, when the government spent over $700 billion dollars to “fix the system”, over 440 banks have failed. That means almost every week since 2008, the FDIC has had to shut down at least one troubled bank. It’s estimated that they have already had to pay out over $65 billion to cover these FDIC insured deposits.
With so many banks still going under, you really have to wonder how long the FDIC can continue to pay out on these insured deposits. With banking industry assets sitting at somewhere around $13.6 trillion, there is little reason to believe the FDIC can actually cover these insured deposits during a full-scale collapse.
While many people believe they’re money is protected by the FDIC, the simple truth is, there’s not enough money to protect everyone. If the system collapses, your FDIC insured account is anything but certain.Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

:)Evening all.
PiC, I would think that PPal money could disappear. It'd certainly be inaccessible in a power outage, so maybe think about pre-converting it into useful items like prepping books in dead-tree format, prepping supplies or just plain old shelf-stable grub.
Ended up not going to the lottie today, as came over a bit unnecessary and decided to stay home and deal with some essential mending (about 3 hours on several garments) and some long-postponed paperwork. I have also found the other end of the sofa which had been MIA for some time.
Worrying about events in Ukraine/ Russia. I wonder if we might eventually see two Ukraines, one with the majority Russian popluation affiliated to, and perhaps a de facto part of Russia, and a rump Ukraine wanting to align itself with the EU? At the current rate of EU expansionism, they'll keep on going until they run smack into China.
I don't like sabre-rattling and Putin is a thug, but it sticks in my craw to see the USA and the UK, among others, coming over all righteous indignation about other countries' soveriegn rights. Yeah, as long as those countries aren't in the Middle East, my lovelies. William Haig ought to be sent out into RL for about 20 years to get some genuine life experience before he starts going abroad running his mouth.
Keep calm and keep prepping, my lovelies, and remember that if you can see a politician's lips moving, they're lying.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Is it just me, or does anyone else think we should celebrate the thousand-page mark? I know it's a bad time all round, particularly in places beginning with U, and maybe this is irredeemably trivial - but cheers everyone, looking forward to the next thousand!

I've just been watching the Hugh Fearnely Whatsit Fish programme and whilst being extremely pleased that the attitudes of TPTB have changed substantially regarding discards particularly of cod and that seems to have lead to a much more sensible policy of landing and using all the catch I'm horrified at the sheer lunacy of the Thai method of fishing out everything from the sea to make fishmeal to feed farmed king prawns to sell in our supermarkets here, what lunacy is this? do we not have prawns in our own sovereign waters? admittedly not stonking big ones but prawns nonetheless!!! The whole system is WRONG, why do we keep buying products that harm the environment in their production, I'll never ever buy King Prawns again, no matter how beguilingly they're marketed by whichever supermarket I happen to use. I'll go to our local fish stall and buy North Sea Prawns or I'll not have prawns at all. I don't at all wish to deprive a Thai fisherman of a living but what is happening out there is unethical and unsustainable, they will end up with empty seas and whole species will be fished out and gone!!!0
