Of course they are crooked, they are like politicians ... Neither will ever change ... I'm more puzzled as to why some people would think they would tbh ?0 -

All we can do is limit our dependence on them. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -

Lyn, you not 'clever'? Not so, dear lady, not so, you're a smart cookie and there's no mistake. Clever is as clever does, and smarts without commonsense are like chips without vinegar; possible but not really the done thing.
I think that the next few years, even decades, will be regarded in retrospect as ones of great turmoil and hardship. Hardship's already here for many, of course, but a lot of people have been creating an illusion of wealth and wellbeing by borrowing heavily. This paper wealth comes unravelled very quickly when unemployment and/ or ill-health strike.
I do know several people with decent jobs and salaries in the £30-£40k bracket (mine being £10k) who are incredibly exposed due to over-consumption and buying homes at the top of the market. Some are already in negative equity and I think this will only become more common. I care about them, but there's a fair bit of la-la-la-ing when it comes to confronting personal non-secured debts.
Even years ago, when I worked in debt advice, there was a growing move to turn unsecured debts like bank loans and credit cards into secured debts by applying for a charge against the property. I don't work in the field these days but I expect this is continuing.
If we end up with a lot of unrest due to hardship, it could be very dangerous to look affluent in your personal grooming, accessories, jewellery, choice of vehicle etc. Time to ditch the bling and live modestly or investment in gated compounds and bodyguards for the superwealthy.
My city is being afflicted with an absolute plague of domestic burglaries, non-domestic break-ins, thefts from cars and vans, it never stops. Literally dozens of burglars are now in custody but it hasn't slowed the pace. I'm having a weekly listing of the crimes from those parts of the city where I have interests (which is 50%) emailed to me by the Police and the list goes ever onwards. I have myself been the victim of three property crimes in two weeks.
We will see a lot more of this, I expect. With the attendant hikes in insurance premiums and loss of peace of mind for those who have been targetted.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I actually think he is not so far off the mark.
I certainly think things are in the offing for spring in the EU. I think Greece will finally tell the troika where to stick there "bailout" and default, independance day on the 25th of March has a nice ring to it or Easter which is a big holiday to most Greeks.
China is on a knife edge they hae borrowed so much its unreal, they are splurging cash to keep people employed. Building buildings to employ workers that end up stood empty and unused.State owned businesses working at huge losses to keep the workforce thinking everything is fine.
By doing this they postponed the 2008 crash, but now when it comes its will be bigger. Expect alot of trouble in China.
There is also the fracking bubble in the US just primed to blow and overpriced stock markets around the world. Could be a pretty brutal summer.

The only bags I have are poo bags which I have in every pocket and are often seen swirling round the washer or down the side of the sofa however, the blue/green colour really matches my eyes

A woman after my own heart. I have been constantly surprised that muggers haven't targetted me because of my £10 c@sio watch on the plastic strap or the cheapest N-kia HausBrik with the cracked screen. I mean, they work, what more do I want?
I have jewelley. I have one bead necklace from Hoxfam which comes out on high days and holidays. And for grooming, I keep myself clean and comb my hair before work, and that's as good as it gets.
Scruffy will be the new black, you mark my words, or at least what the well-dressed Grey Man or Grey Woman will be wearing about the allotment this year.
The trick is to look like you haven't got enough to be worth the trouble. I persist with my humungous desktop PC because it works perfectly well and is unlikely to be stolen because it has no resale value and it weighs an awful lot. I mean, what self-respecting burglar would want to run off with a 21kg CRT monitor with zero value? Lappies are far too portable for people living in neighbourhoods like mine.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.
