Ditto here, but minus the lurcher.
The most valuable thing in my flat ain't a thing, it's me. I'd be seriously-aggrieved if someone decided to run off with any of my 'treasures' but, realistically speaking, that's quite unlikely.
This is a funny post from Miss Minimalist's website.

Proving you should do some research before breaking down doors, as not all homes are equal when it comes to robbing-opportunities.
Thanks GQ. That's a funny link.
The thing I have always been worried about being stolen is my CD's. (Do burglars steal CD's nowadays or are they too old fashioned?)
I guess nowadays they are more likely to be after my utility bills and bank statements, so they can open phantom accounts in my name.
Did I mention that I got a letter from Nationwide (who I have no dealings with) a few months ago mentioning that someone had tried to take out a loan in my name? I suspect it was a disgruntled previous tenant, as everything I discard is shredded.
Nationwide tell me that in view of this, any financial products I apply for now will incur extra checks. They aren't kidding! Santander wouldn't even let me have a credit card a few months ago.0 -
My few CDs (bar one from the discount bin) are all burned from friends' CDs. If you want to assess the liklihood of being robbed of them, find out what your local Cash Co nvertors et al is offering to buy them for. If it's pence, they'll probably be safe.
But financial or ID documents are very popular to commit fraud, so guard them well, particularly if you'd been seen from the outside as 'wealthy'/

Bernie Carr blogs here; http://apartmentprepper.com/
I've been reading it for some time. I suppose I am technically an 'apartment dweller' but I prefer to be more frank in Brit-English; I live in a council flat.
Ooh, thanks for that! I'm 9 floors up so that will come with its own set of challenges...
and yes, CD's and DVD's are worth next to nothing.‘Keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole.’ David Lynch.

No CDs are very unlikely to be stolen. When I was trying to get rid of my collection after moving to iCloud I could barely give them away!0

Please forgive me if this has already been posted, but I really like this site that teaches you how to make solar cookers in a very simple way.

Loving the Miss Minimalist website! Doesn't sit *too* well with litres of water, and dried beans all over the place, but goes brilliantly for all the other stuff2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Mrs Lurcherwalker, I've wanted to ask, since I started lurking here, what the make up of your lurcher is. He/he reminds me a lot of my family's old lurcher, which was a rough coat. Very laid back dog, if she was a human she'd definitely have lived in a hippie commune. We now have a different lurcher, totally different temperament. She has the laid back greyound bit still, but with this totally scatty terrier attitude. We're used to having collies and lurcher cross collies, so she's quite different, great fun though. I love lurchers:D.Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Karmacat, I love the minimalist blog too - a near - empty pure white room would be perfect for me. I hate "stuff"0

Hi VIVATIFOSI the lurcha is 2/3 hooligan and the rest is made up of in equal parts Greyhound, Whippet, Border Collie and Bedlington Terrier. Of course he thinks he's human and we're just odd, but I guess that's how all lurchas see the world, yes? Lyn xxx.0
