Yes and we still have not hit the wall from the last crisis. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -

It certainly is -
TPTB have not increased the Non-Dependant deductions on Housing benefits for the last ten years but have now decided to hike them up over the next four years to 'catch-up'. The percentage of council tax charged to benefit claimants is also certain to rise significantly come April 2014. Housing Associations are increasing rents by about 6%.:heartpuls The best things in life aren't things :heartpuls

southantrim3, the situation regarding the internet does bother me, but apart from mse I don't belong to any other forums. I never post on fb and ensure my photo is never posted by anyone. I intend to learn and educate myself whilst we still can and try to ensure I have a copy of anything important for later reference. I do think I'm addicted though I hate to admit it:o
elaine241, I also collect those little wooden sticks:rotfl:I noticed though that the ones they have in Waitrose (I took advantage of a free coffee with my waitrose loyalty card)are much longer and better than the ones I collect from McD's (We stop on route to FIL's) I also collect napkins, salts, peppers and sugars for pinicing and keeping in the car.

Re the rats/mice the thing our ancestors did and what we do is the have cats lol. Mind you you still get them, just they are dead and presented as a lovely gift from your moggy .
Let ours in after a run around outside and Fi Fi tried to sneak one in the house yack! Otherwise as Elaine says rodent proof storage and/or traps.

Fortunately our last remaining moggy has given up hunting. When he was younger I was woken almost every morning around 5am by either squeaking under our bed or the thud of a deceased critter hitting the underside of the bed/mattress. Occasionally It would be frantic squawking and lots of flapping from a bird. OH would stay in bed whilst I got up to catch or remove the object of said moggies amusement. I figured it was easier to catch them in the bedroom rather than loosing them in the kitchen and I hadn't the heart to lock the cat flap. Thankfully he grew out of that and has become a total softy and more of a house cat. I don't think he's quick enough or can be @rsed, but we'll find out as it gets warmer.0 -

I'd be fine about it if the prey entered the house dead, but they were usually very much alive and my god do birds make a mess when frightened. The most we got from our last male moggie was a few dragonflies and large moths:rotfl:0 -
In which case get a taxi, they should pay that on expenses.
Not necessarily - I work in the public sector and expenses are - rightly - heavily scrutinised. I would need good 'justification' for a taxi, and while licensed taxis are fine in the UK, I don't think that this is always the case everywhere  In some places it is probably best not to get into a car with a stranger!
I would always just pay for a taxi myself if I felt really unsafe and work would be unlikely to cover, but I have a pretty good sense now of when it is 'ok' and when not. And being an older woman, not obviously expensively dressed, avoiding jewellery on display, keeping mobile phones out of sight etc, it is possible to be fairly invisible I find :rotfl:0 -

I must still be tired I had to read that three times
I just think of all the years when the only news I watched was on the box and when you think there was only three channels when I was growing upthat pretty much enabled the Government to control what we were told and brain washed us into what we believe.
The age of the internet must be shaking them in their Italian leather boots especially as other Governments around the world are being toppled on a more frequent basis.
